Awesome review of newbie gun addiction! I'm still there too. I also have collection of 1911s - they are like my children, love them all the same! I went the other way starting with the idea that my one and only 1911 had to American made - Remington R1 Enhanced. Then I lucked out on a Stainless Colt Gold Cup shortly after. Followed by an STI Ranger 2 in 9mm - fantastic gun but I didn't care for commander length 1911 - sold it. Came accross a SR1911 - fantastic 1911, best bang for the buck IMO. American made stainless 1911 for under $800 was better value than my Rem R1 purchase, but my R1 is now my best shooter.
Bought a Norc NP29 recently and tuned it up myself - fun hobby. Sights are a bit off but shoots really well with no hiccups at all - realized that cheap guns like Norcs are grocery getters, no need to be pretty to get the job done. Would I customize a Norc? Personally - no. If I was gonna keep it forever, yes - but I know I won't. They are fantastic simple fun and if you have the commitment, Norcs can be works of art like Kimbers and other high end customs. In fact, my last IDPA match least points down was shot with an old highly tuned Norc .45
I too jumped on that Can Ammo deal but I may just end up selling the gun - I'll wait to see how it is first.
