Was thinking about buying a remington 700 SPS DM in 30-06, but I was just curious before I made my purchase, does anybody have a Parker Hale experience, specifically a Safari model? I've only shot the c3 in 7.62 and that was pretty good. Just wondering what would be better, or pros and cons of both?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Parker hale rifles are great. While the company is closed and out of business, there are allot of parts out there. TradeEx has a few under the sporting/ hunting section. A few hundred $$ less than the 700 and just as good. I saw about a doz on the sight. There are also other very nice hunting rifles there as well.

I have owned and shot both but I would lean towards the Remington if the budget allows. Resale will be easier, lots of comments but my .02 cents worth is it will just be a better investment all around.

There are lots of after market upgrades for the Rem 700 (stocks, triggers and such) plus when ready they are easy to blueprint and re-barrel. Many say and to a point I agree remington quality has slipped some but I own 2 SPS variants that I tweaked to get sub MOA groups ( 5-3 shot groups in a row under 1").
The Parker Hale is a Mauser variant with the much vaunted controlled round feed and is well made but is limited to being a very good hunting rifle but not a target rifle.

Good choice in a firearm......except if you want it for hunting and target, I'd go with a .308 win After a day of target shooting with a .30-06 sprg you have the piss beat out of you from absorbing all the recoil.

I'm in the same boat, and I'm leaning toward a Weatherby Vanguard. I understand it's built by Howa, as are several other popular brandnames.

My dad has a Parker Hale safari in 30-06.
It had feeding problems out of the box.
The bullet coming out of the magazine would hang up on the feed ramp.
It was a fairly easy fix (or so his gunsmith said) and its been great after getting that straightened out.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the input. I don't think I'd be using it for target shooting very much, just want it as a primary hunting rifle. Something I can mount good glass on, zero it and use. I wanted it in 30-06 in case I decide to ever go for something bigger like moose or elk, and god willing, I'd like to get a bison before I die.
