to the OP (orig poster) - did you buy a scope yet?
from what i've learned so far, hand-held anything beyond 3-9 or MAYBE 4-12 is gonna be a pain to keep stable. also, some reticles are very fast and easy to acquire with the eye, others are so-so. Zeiss Rapid-Z 600 / 800 are wicked, but $$$. the Leupold stuff is VERY nice and easy to grab with the eye, and in a 2-7 or 3-9 range (or MAYBE even 4-12) you should be able to find something worth KEEPING for around 300 at LeBaron. while you're there, check out the Redfield stuff with the AccuRange reticle - it might just be what you're after. good optics, easy to grab, not a lot of dark crap around your field of view, nice reticle esp against a black background, and priced very well. and not made in commie-china. low on features, but good on optics (which should be more important anyways)
