EOtech 512 vs. Aimpoint Pro

Did you actually just say that...... Comparing aimpoint to a eotech is like comparing norinco to lmt. There is a very good reason why eotechs are used world wide by most of the top forces in the world. When you compare the lowest eotech to the highest aimpoint there obviously will be more benifits on the top model aimpoint.

Eotech is a holographic sight, the aimpoints are overpriced bushnells. My exps3-4 is
Flawless with a 900hr batt life on full power. If thats not good enough batt life i dont know what is.

Reliable ... They are mounted to .50 bmg machine guns in the military...
Can an aimpoint do that?

You have no idea what you are talking about....

No offense, but you don't know what you don't know. It becomes pretty obvious when you liken Aimpoint to Norinco or Bushnells.

I'll just leave this here: http://www.gao.gov/decisions/bidpro/311453.pdf

And point out that in three separate competitions in 2002, 2006, and 2009 for the M68 CCO, EOtech failed to meet testing standards, while Aimpoint was the only product selected.

Read through the government post and all it was is eotech not liking the way they attached the sight to the rails.

Lets be serious now though both eotech and aimpoint are probably good sights however the one that is used by forces throughout the world including the Canadian and American militaries is the eotech. The eotech is the standard by which the rest of the industry is measured. If you want a high end red dot sight that has been combat proven and used extensively in the field with confidence go for the eotech.

I have tried both, voting EOtech because: they're pretty tough and my eyes like them better :) [I ended up buying 2]

As for battery life, I don't care because EOtech takes standard AA batteries which are available anywhere. I've had my EOTech for years and never had to replace the battery. Just depends on how often you use it.

Both EOtechs and Aimpoints have dedicated .50 cal units.

Most forces issue EOTechs due to price.

Ever heard of a Bushnell Holosight? An EOTech is the same internals in a different housing.

900 hours works out to 37.5 days, so you would have to change your batteries out monthly if you leave it on continuously, but you can't, because the EOTech shuts itself off after eight hours. Compare this with even the lower-priced Aimpoint PRO, which has a 30,000 hour battery life - over three years. In this case, annual battery changes are a nice, conservative preventative maintenance interval.

I will take the electronic sight that can be left ready for instant use any day over the one that has to be "booted up" every time I use it.

Pat Rogers and Larry Vickers (among other SMEs) have stated a strong preference for Aimpoints over EOTechs. The EOTech may be a better choice than one of the hobby-grade optics, but it is still a distant second to the Aimpoint.

Did you miss the part where it said the EOtech sample couldn't withstand a 6000 round live fire endurance test? And are you not aware that over 1 000 000 Aimpoints are in service with the US Army as the M68 CCO?

It comes down to shooter preference really now with the quality level of both products being so high. For me I like a little more information than just a red dot. So that is why I prefer the EOTech. I have a 308 version which gives me some elevation and Windage markings which gives me even more info than the donut. Just as others have said the AA battery's are so easy to replace I don't worry about battery life. Aimpoint I think is still winning in all battery life technical stats though.

Each have their strengths just try them out and find out which one suits your needs.
