Just bought a 522 off another gnut and was wondering if anyone has a blurry reticle. The pixels in the reticle don't seem well defined. I thought it would go away if I mounted it further down the rail but it is still there.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think this may mean that you need to see an eye doctor... seriously. I saw some other posts on this issue before on CGN.

Nothing major is wrong with you - you just may need some type of vision correction.

What he says is true... I have astigmatism and the EOTech looks "fuzzy" to me. I would best describe it as looking at the graphics of an old nintendo /commodore 64 video game compared to the current hi-def ones. It still gets the job done but it's not an ideal solution - at least for my eyes. As a side note, I don't experience this phenomenon with an ACOG or and ELCAN.

Yep, I have the same problem. The reticle is all blurry and grainy for me with them. From what I understand this has to do with the laser generated holographic image being hard on the eyes of people suffering from astigmatism. It's not your optic, it's you :(

Try an aimpoint or a Dr. Optik (or similar clone), they use different technology.

Thanks guys! I had four of my friends try it out and they all see the same thing. Coincidence that we all have eye issues?

Tried other eye and the same appearance. Thanks for the input and off to the eye Dr. I go.

The dot in my Aimpoint sight doesn't look round. Is it defective?

If your dot does not appear to be perfectly round, the distortion is probably caused by the way that your eye perceives the dot, rather than by some mechanical defect. Due to differences in the lenses in different individuals' eyes, round objects that subtend areas near 3 minutes of angle may appear distorted in a variety of ways depending on the individual and other environmental influences. Inexpensive red dot sights sometimes have manufacturing defects that can cause the dot to be an odd shape.

A simple test that can be easily performed will allow you to determine the cause of the apparent distortion:

Turn the sight on and look through as you normally would. (This test is easiest when the sight is not mounted on a firearm, but can be performed with the sight mounted as well. Just make sure that the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction.)

While continuing to look through the sight, roll the sight on its optical axis.

If the dot's irregularities seem to revolve around the center of the dot like the spokes of a wheel, there is a mechanical defect causing the distortion.

If the dot does not roll with the sight, the distortion is caused in the way your eye perceives the dot. This is not to say that you don't have good vision. You can see clearly and still see a distortion in objects this small.

This effect is less pronounced in sights with larger dots. More people will see the dot in a sight with a 10 minute-of-angle dot as being perfectly round than will be able to see a 3 MOA dot as round.

After reading your last post, it very well may be that it is the device - rather then you.
Saying that, their is nothing you can do about it now anyways. Eotech doesn't allow them out of the country, or back in for the matter. Stupid US State Department.

Also, it could just be that you're thinking the reticle should be razor sharp. It won't be, even with perfect eyes. Just a limitation of the technology, I guess. It will never have perfectly crisp edges.

Try turning it down all the way until it's just barely visible. You'll probably notice it 'sharpen' quite a bit.

With Aimpoints, I see the noise or the 'shakiness' of the dot.

EOTech's seem slightly out of focus for me as well.

My EOTech seems a bit off too but learned to deal with it. Lets see a picture of yours, see how bad it is might just be your eyes!!!!!

All Eotech’s will appear a little fuzzy. Its worst in artificial light. Only have the reticle turned on high enough so that you can see it and superimpose it over the target. You need to keep adjusting it for light conditions. I have used these sights for the range and on a two way range. The biggest mistake guy’s do is turn them up all the way. When you do it will appear very fuzzy and your eye will not adjust , and it will focus on the reticle and not the target. So just have it barely bright enough to see the dot.

As noted above, flaring or blooming will distort the reticle image. The other key note, do NOT focus on the reticle, you are to focus on the target. Focusing on the reticle will tend to appear as though it is pixelated or distorted.
