I purchased an EOtech 552 knockoff from eBay @ $109.00USD

The unit is manufactured by UFC somewhere out of Honk Kong or thereabouts.

The unit "looks" almost exactly like the real deal (EOtech 552). It appears to be constructed out of te same materials as the EOtech.

I put in a fresh set of Duracell AA batteries and installed it on my SKS-D and headed off to the range.

First off, the EOtech projects a LASER light source to project an image of a reticle on the screen, the knockoff uses a "LED", hence they can offer RED & GREEN as the EOtech is RED only. This is probably how the Chinese copy gets by without copyright infringement on EOtechs product.

The knockoff offers 10 levels of brightness, EOtech has 20.

Today was a fairly sunny day (bright conditions).

I found the knockoff reticle a bit hard to see against the white and black target even at its brightest setting.

The sight was fairly easy to zero in, HOWEVER, the sight would TURN ITSELF OFF every 3rd or 4th shot, and this was due entirely to the recoil from the rifle. You can switch it on and come back an hour later and the sight remains ON. I couldn't fire a 5 round mag without it switching off.

When you switch it back on, it defaults to GREEN @ level 5 brightness. So you have to push a button for RED, then bump it up 5 brightness levels, so 6 button pushes in all.

This sight would probably be OK on an "airsoft" gun or even on a .22 rifle, however on a real gun (7.62x39mm), it is a piece of poop. I had orginally purchased this sight to go with my Norc T97 .223 Remington which I won't have before the fall. Maybe on a .223 it won't switch off from the recoil, but I won't keep the sight around to find out. If I stay with a holosight, I will have to spring for the EOtech original.

I will be contacting the vendor to return the sight for a refund.

There is a reason WHY the knockoff is $110 and the real McCoy is $500. This just proves once more, "You get what you pay for!"

If you want a cool looking inexpensive alternative to EOtechs sight, I would say go for it, but ONLY on a small caliber rifle (.17, .22 or other very low recoil). For larger calibers, stay away from the knockoffs.

Thanks for the review. I had considered one for my 10/22, but won't be buying one.
