EOTech 553?

I plan on primarily mounting an EOTech on my flat-top AR-15.

The reason I like the 553 in principle is it sits higher and positions the reticle above the forward iron sight. The typical EOTech models position the reticle in-line with the iron sights for co-witnessing. I release this is great for intial sighting-in but don't want to spend all this money to have to look at my front sight with a pretty red halo around it...

At this time, I can't remove my front sight but might consider it in the future. I've also though of using the LaRue Tactical mount that adds ~1/4" rise to typical EOTech models.

1. What's the consensus on irons in the line-of-site or avoiding it with a riser?
2. Does anyone have feed back on the LaRue mount?
3. What's the consensus on AA or N battery models vs 123?

To answer your questions:

#1. My BUIS folds, so all I see is the FSB. It's not a big deal, but I think that a riser would be nice in order to go to a lower third type co-witness.

#2. Wish I could help you. I'd kinda like to buy one myself...

#3. I bought the N cell model Eotech simply because I wanted a sight that took up less room. I've only had it for about a month, but so far I really, really like it.

This is great info!!! Thanks again all!

I vaguely recall that installing the GG&G QD lever will void the EOTechs warranty. Is that true? I guess if something failed on the EOTech while under warranty I'd just remove the GG&G and deny it was ever installed...

I'm a little confused now...Is the purpose of cowitnessing (being able to see the front and rear iron sights thru the window) for sighting-in the EOTech reticle or for aiming the rifle when your EOTech battery die?

I thought it was for the prior and then I could see the advantage of not using a riser so all sights are collinear....If not, I can see the advantage of a riser so the irons are in the lower 3rd and I guess you just sight the EOTech in separately...

Maybe I should just get removable front/rear sights (BUIS) and stop being an FNG (F**king New Guy)! and buy the 552!

HELP:confused:

It's for when the eotech fails for any reason (batteries, electronics, etc). When the zombies are approaching, just flip your rear sight up (if it wasn't already) and go. Also handy during a match if it's the kind of match where you don't get range alibis.

Consider the EoTech 512,unless you have the coin, and feel a need for a NV compatible unit.that'll save you about $100 you can put towards a magnifier for it.which you'll want later.
If you have a FSB on,leave it for now,and try the EOTech with out a riser,I don't think you'll find this a bad set up.This is how I run mine(Had to have a 552,Beaucoup cool points).you can alway add to mod as you go ,no need to do it all at once.
Ahh,what else to say??
