It seems to work equally well in both set ups (but I haven't been to the range with it yet). Other than needing a better mount is there any advantage/disadvantage to the near/far setup?

Second what's a decent flip mount that lines up with the EOTech?

I think a LT649 will be too high for a 552 without a riser. I have one and it lines up with my 553, but you need to push the Eotech pretty far forward for everything to fit, and I find it makes the gun a bit too front heavy.

If someone has a separate scope and magnifier and then they decide to mount a night vision device in front of the scope - that would make it three devices in a row. I wonder how they deal with that?

A bit off theme - I never had a chance to see eotech/magnifier in person - how does it work? Magnifier I mean. Does it magnify red dot and everything? Is there separate reticle in a magnifier? What is eye relief on magnifier? Can I use NV goggles and look throuhg this setup and see dot and target? Can I take magnifier off and put it back on without having to sight in again? How quickly can I remove magnifier if I have to?

22lr, the magnifier magnifies the reticle as well as the view.

I find I need the magnifier about the same distance away as my Acog for it to work properly (same distance as a regular scope).

The magnifier has nothing to do with the zero of the optic in front. All it does is makes the sight picture closer. Depending on the mount it can be a solid mount, quick detach (mine), or a flip to the side type. I flip a lever, rotate 90 degrees and mine is off or back on.

I have used an Eotech with a flip out 4X magnifier. The red dot did not appear closer or magnified but my target was magnified. I don't remember the brand name of the magnifier but it was another $600.00 USD on top of the $450.00 Eotech. Magnifier flipped out of the way and back in the way solidly and locked in place. It was a bit odd having an optic canted off the side of the AR top rail. I think I would go with a short dot and not have a moving part like that on my rifle.

They are made by the A.R.M.S. company. Wolverine has there products in store. Plus take it from me...
When your doing 3 gun compitions the quick flip feature rocks out every type of optic/sight on the market. The only draw back is the long distant shoots over 200m.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I got it. I just need a flip mount instead of the QD type.

So now what do I do with the ACOG that normally sits on mt AR? :)

Anyone that really wants to go with a magnifier for an Eotech or Aimpoint really should consider Larue's LT-649.
