I am looking for information or photos of an eotech mounted on a traditional arms 18 mount over the breach.

Can anyone let me know if there is any reason NOT to do this.

Thanks y'all

Romeo

I had a problem with empty shells striking the bottom of the optic and kicking them forward.
the op rod would sometimes pin the shell casing against the receiver causing the M1A to jam.
I have read of others experiencing the same issue.

i have not noticed this problem, but i do also know of this happening to others

Scout mount

Where do I get one of the scout mounts? Does it bolt to the barrel?

Does anyone know where to purchase a top heat shield that has integral rails?

I believe Fabsports has the UTG version of that upper guard with a rail built in. I have never tried it but I think a number of guys here have and they could give you the lowdown on that.

I couldn't tell you where to get a scout mount at the moment (although Brownell's seems likely) as I got mine a while ago but it does bolt to the barrel...you can think of it like a super beefy, upside down scope ring almost, only with a short section of rail where the clamp would ordinarily go.

You can get one of the tri-rail mounting systems that replace the handguard from fabsports. They've had good reviews here and Fabrice is excellent to deal with. Plus he's a sponsor.

I've got an ARMS 18 mount on my shorty Norc 14, with the folding stock. I've also got an Eotech 555 [ AA batteries with ARMS dual throw levers ]. For reasons known only to ARMS, the two throw levers on the Eotech 555 will NOT line up with the slots in the ARMS mount rail ... the rail is just !@#$%^& too short.

I got the EO 555 SPECIFICALLY to mount on the 14 ....
any body got a different EO [ PREFERABLY the SHORTER 557 ] they want to swap?
Or maybe an EO WITHOUT the built in ARMS levers??

I would really like an EO on my 14, but so far I'm hooped.

Oh well, I've got a decent, inexpensive BARSKA ACOG clone red dot.
Maybe that would work well on the 14 ....

why is there a question? AR18 mount works well and Eotech works well too. Although for red dots I prefer mounting options that keep them awayay from pupil as far as practical to reduce parallax error. FFor that reason trirail systems that replace upper handguard are proly better solution.

Mind you the best mounting option for red dot (or holo) remain to be Troy chassis or Sage.

Yep, the UltiMAK rail, TROY MCS and the SAGE EBR are excellent choices for mounting red dot Holo sights.

I had the same problem when i tried to mount a USO scope on my ARMS 18. I just got a badger extension rail an bolted it to the arms. Only problem is you end up with an additional 1/2 rise.

Yes, I've considered the YHM 1/2" riser .... and with the folding stock, the extra height is not too bad,
BUT,
I am pi$$ed off at ARMS because the ARMS 18 rail and the ARMS levers on my Eotech don't match up. Why would they do this to me??

I have a eotech 512A65 and will be going with the UTG tri rail option. MUCH cheaper than the ultimak, troy, and sage hehehe
I had to take the rifle in the pic below out to test fire and test fit on a customers M14S-CQB stock prior to shipping it off..... I try to do this with all my custom stocks to ensure fit and function.
Not having the ideal mount for the rifle pictured..... i installed a springfield armory mount and started wasting targets..... On the set up pictured, the rig was actuallly quite comfortable to shoot and the eotech, despite how high up it is sitting and how goofy it looks :D worked out pretty sweet.
I have installed several of the UTG tri rails for fellow CGN'ers now and the feedback and comments on this mounting set up are very favorable. For the 100 n change they cost..... they are probably the best solution availlable to canadians for forward mounting of an eotech on the m14
