So I bought a Mossberg 500 Smoothbore/Rifled Barrel combo. Its drilled and tapped and I'm trying to figure out what I want exactly for an optic. I have an Eotech on my AR15 and I was thinking I would take it off and use it on my shotgun. If I sight it in will I be able to will it be good enough for deer in the field? Do I need something with magnification for 100 yards? Anybody else hunt with an Eotech on their shotty?

Definitely good enough for deer at 100. I have one on my ar and have no issues ringing the 200yrd gong with it. The gong is in the shape of a human head/torso which is close enough to deer sized.
People regularly take deer with shotguns and if as long as you sight it in and know your guns capabilities/POI etc you'll be fine.

Lots of guys down here just use a bead sight for shotgun season. A quality red dot will do you very nicely I think.
