So I've been running a 512 for a couple years now and I've been humin' and hawin' over getting a magnifier.

I decided to take the plunge today and bought the new G23.FTS It's there latest version and it seems of high quality. I like that it comes with a flip to the side/quick release mount included. But most importantly just having the option to quickly switch from CQB to mid range optics is whats really intriguing.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this version or the last version. Any tips or suggestions, and please, share your opinion on this optic in general.

On a side note, will I have any clearance issues with my Magpul BUIS. Like when my sight is flipped down will the G23 clear it?

Input please... ;)

Same situation here, but I didn't take the plunge yet. At one time I was looking into the Vortex VMX3... but it's not the "real thing" as the EO or Aimpoint 3x mag., hard to decide...

This newer version is what sold me, the mount makes it that much more useful. Wolverine has them instock, I paid $648. Remember that includes the mount as apposed to the aimpoint that goes for $800 plus a $200 mount... In the end it seemed like a great value. Plus now I'll be able to see my 50 yard target .. lol

EoTech mag in the 4x is a square viewing area allowing you to have the entire reticale area un-obstructed. Hence why they are made for it. The AimPoint 4x mag is a circle viewing area, hence they are made for it. To have a EoTech Holo Sight & a AimPoint Magnifier would be conter productive in my view. Also the same goes for the visia-versa of the 2.

True, but shouldn't the short eye relief of the magnifier automatically center your vision in the HUD?

I ordered one of these from the US, but then my order got canceled, since they wouldn't ship it to Canada.

I can't bring myself to pay 35-40% more for one just because it's already in Canada, I'd rather order in the US and have it forwarded to me, but because of all this extra hassle, I just ordered a replica one. The quality in the reviews I've read seems decent, at for $65 vs $650, I figure if it's a total POS, it's not the end of the world, and I can always upgrade later.

I have the 4x replica with the flip to side mount it works great and has seen lots of use on my rig, the optic is clear and eye releif if ok also, can't go wrong for the price...:D

You can find Aimpoint magnifiers for about 600 bones. The mounts do cost extra, BUT they use ANY 30mm ring. So if the mount is hooped, a quick replacement can be found locally.

I had one of the first EOTech 3x magnifiers. A long time ago. It was pretty good, I'll admit. It used a harder to find 34mm ring. The thing that got me was when I flipped over, it would not positively lock in the open position. It just sorta hung there. I also really disliked the integrated ARMS lever. After a ton of opening and closing, it loosened up. I abandoned the whole system.

Just my experience and some food for thought.

Fair enough, jeez I never concidered the mount. I hope this newer version holds up, the youtube reviews seem to suggest that the mount is solid both open and closed. I guess only time will tell...

I just picked up the eotech 3x magnifier to go with my m3 aimpoint. I like that it includes the mount. Flip to side mounts for the aimpoint magnifier seem to be hard to come by. I am using the riser and it clears the rear magpul sight. I will be taking it to the range this weekend for the first time so will be able to report back after that.

So far the only inconvenience I see is that even with the American Defense cantilever mount the rear sight when folded down is slightly in the way of the charging handle. Might need to pick up an oversized latch...

Am I not getting this or what? Are the 4X mag Eotechs knockoffs, or are they the old models?
Take this one, is this a knock off, or is it a old model?
http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=533202

They are an older model. Discontinued a last year, I think.
I once found a discontinued product line on EOTech's website with some literature on the 4x.

I have no idea why they would discontinue it I would like a 4x myself. Maybe I should try a knockoff for s**t-and-giggles if they are dirt cheap.:D

Small Review

It's still too soon to be giving a complete review, but I can share some of my thoughts with it so far.

PROS

-ARMS mount is kick ass! Strong as hell and works well.
-Construction is solid and will handle a beating if need be.
-Cosmetically its way nicer then its predecessor, very sleek and ###y.
-Glass clarity is 100% my EO sight is way crisper.
-Price is decent @ $650 Inc. mount
-Compared to the old version, this unit matches up very nicely to my EO.
-Finish is strong and durable, like my EO

CONS

-Didn't come with lens caps, I can't find any either.

I'm 100% happy with this unit. So far It's only been tested at short ranges max 100 yards, but it's preformed very well. The transition from long to short range via the FTS mount is slick, fast and reliable. Clarity is great and in bright sunlight it defiantly helps brighten up the sight. The sight is dramatically crisper and sharper when viewing through the magnifier, it makes the EO that much better. The two together just belong, I don't know why I waited so long to get one. It would be like having turkey without the gravy.

With the new design (cosmetically) the two units together really do make for that streamlined look. I can see why lots opted for the aimpoint over the older version. With the new look theres no reason to now, if you're running an EO do yourself a favor and pick one of these units up.

Thanks for that. I've been thinking about getting one of those for a while. Maybe it's time. My TAC 21 is the project for today though. It's supposed to be at the post office now.:D

Still about an ounce heavier than the aimpoint + larue mount, but much lighter than eotech's first version. Looks great too.

True, I didn't put that as a CON because IMHO extra weight when it comes to optics isn't necessarily a bad thing. The housing on the G23 looks tough as hell, I'm assuming thats where the extra weight is attributed.
