Hi, so I'm working on putting optics onto my AR, it's got a flat top and detachable carry handle. I've got an Eotech 552 coming in soon. I've been looking through the Larue site and they've got some pretty interesting quick disconnect rails like this one http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=33. it would be nice to put my eotech on that and be able to snap it on and off the AR quickly without having to bust out the hex keys. does anyone have any experience with eotechs on ARs? is this little bit of a rise desirable? and with that particular mount... would that little piece of picatinny mess with me later when I try to put on an Eotech magnifier with the flip to side mount?

You'll probably be getting a thumb screw with the EOtech.

I have the La Rue, it's nice but not necessary. I actually find I get a better co-witness without it. I just like it cuz it's tacticool:cool:

I don't have a riser and don't plan on getting one. Love the eotech right on the rail. When you get it try it and if you feel you need some height, go from there. Don't buy something unless you need it, that's good ammo money that could be blown on a possibly unneeded item.

If you can, check the clearance with any sights you have on your rifle. If they co-witness with your Eotech then don't worry about it. If they interfere, get a riser. Just getting a riser 'cause is not the way to go.

It's really personal preference. Some people like an absolute co-witness, others prefer the sights in the lower third of the sight picture.

Give it a try with nothing and see how you like it. If you'd like it to sit higher, than fine get a riser. The quick detach thing is a mute point in my opinion, how often will you take it off. I never remove my optics unless absolutely neccessary.

i never use the thumb screw on the eotech either... I use the hex head bolt, if the sight fails for some reason then the clear window is fine for my open sights to see thru, and if that does not work then I can always go homefrom the range :p

I like the quick release. Since my Eotech will be used on two different uppers. Plus I have a scope with quick release rings to change over to whichever upper I want.

Is the Eotech 553 the same height as the 552 or is it equivalent to a 552 with a Larue quick release riser?
