Thinking about getting a eotech red dot go throw on my tavor. But haven't seen or able to see one in person and not sure how big the dot is. Only reason I'm kinda on the fence is it came with a vortex red dot which is nice but find the dot at about 50-75 yards covers up the target. Is the eotech gonna be any better/easier? Currently have a vortex viper pst 1-4 but think it might fit better on a future ar purchase.

I ran an Eotech on my Tavor for a while before my Elcan SpecterDR. The 1 moa dot was good for precise fire. Really depends what you want to use your Tavor for.
 
Eotechs to me have the best reticle out of all the red dot sights. The main aiming point is a 1moa dot, circled by a 65moa ring. The dot being 1moa means that it only covers 1 square inch at 100yrds. This makes it very precise for an unmagnified optic.

As far as cqb style shooting, it also does quite well in that aspect too in my opinion. The larger outer ring helps you pick up the 1 moa dot that may otherwise be difficult to spot quikly.

I am willing to bet your vortex mas at the very lest 3-4 moa dot, maybe larger.

I bought an exps2-0 for my Tavor and also ran that until I decided I needed magnification and saved for an Elcan Specter DR 1-4x.

eotech certainly has very distinct advantages over an aimpoint. i have both, and the advantages are clear.

I believe they do, although I myself would rather aimpoint. I know my whole police service switched from eotech to aimpoint because the eotechs were giving nothing but trouble. They kept "flickering" off and on like the battery connections were loose. No problems with any of the aimpoints yet.

Which Vortex for do you have? My SPARC is great... As long asI wear my prescription glasses. I have an astigmatism and it causes the dot to bloom. Have you had your eyes checked lately?
 
Xps series uses transverse battery mounts to alleviate the loose contacts some earlier ones had. A set of AA last a year in my 512. I replace them every Janurary and it's not a problem. Who the heck needs five year battery life on a RDS anyway?

For civilian use it doesn't matter. Optic gets turned off when the gun hits the safe. However for police and military use, the longer the battery life the better as most operators don't turn off there optic.
 
I have tried vortex, aimpoint, various scopes, mepro, and I always end up
wishing I had just bought an eotech. All I have now is eotech, 512 and a 552
I do very little long range and have a rifle just for that. Eotech just works
the best for me and what I do. Regards 375rum
 
I love my eotech on my tavor. I know some people complain it is too low, but I seem to prefer a tighter cheek weld so it is perfect for me.

Depends on the model. The XPS series is low, I have an XPS 2-0 on my XCR and it works well. On a factory Tavor rail height I ran an EXPS 2-0 and the built in QD mount/riser worked well and was a good height.

yeah, I'm running the XPS which is a standard co-witness sight... I believe the EXPS is a lower thirds co-witness, so while the windoe in the sight is higher, the recticle is in the bottom third of the window. In effect the sightline is no higher off the rifle, it just has the illusion of being higher since there is more sight picture above the sight line.
 
I have a 516 on mine with the G33 magnifier. I love it. Perfect height. And definitely have your eyes checked if you noticed blooming of the reticle. When I have my lenses in its a Sharp, clear dot and ring. Take the lenses out and it's a hilarious blur of red.
