For the Holosights, what are the differences in these 2? (I'm green with the Holosights) Would I be just as well served by the Bushnell on a 14.5" barrelled AR? What's the cost difference?

I own two holosights - one with the standard reticle (ring and dot) and one with just a 1 moa dot. I've never had a problem with either (one is mounted on my 14.5 inch AR).

Personally, I think if it's just a range gun, you won't really NEED the extra protection of the metal hood that the EOTech has. That's really the only difference between the two. There is a place in the states where you can buy the hood separately if you wish later on down the road.

The eotech is built much sturdier. - electronics fully encased etc in addition to the metal shield. no difference in reticles altho I beleive now the dot only is avalable in Eotech & not in Holosight. I agree with canucklehead if it's primarily on a range gun where your life or pride doesn't depend on it Holosight is fine. To my mind paying an extra $150 or so for an Eotech is well worth it as you can use it on hunting trips etc and it's much easier to resell if you want to later on. I put my eotech on my turkey gun & also on my bush lever action & for me its worth it given the time & effort, and some of my few days off, i put into the hunt. I have a holosight as well and it goes on the range guns.

Checked out the Eotech site. There's a link to Bushnell there. Is it an Eotech product and just marketed by Bushnell for the hunting market?
