Eotech problems

I brought it in from my truck. It was -6 and was in there for a few hours. So there's fog on the outside of the lens when I brought it inside. I let it warm up a bit inside then I put in the two batteries.

The reticle isn't just fuzzy. It's nothing but a mass of red pins. You couldn't even make out that it was supposed to be a red circle with a dot in the middle.

Anyways I let it warm up more and kept testing it out. Now the reticle looks like a circle with a dot in it but the left side of the dot has more red pins and yes the entire image looks fuzzy even though every red pin that makes up the circle is distinguishable.

I don't think it's my eyes if it goes from a mass of red to something resembling a reticle.

Also my eyes have been tested recently and are good.

I messed with the brightness settings. When it was really bad at first this didn't help. Now if you lower it so it's almost not visible it looks the way it's supposed to. But this really sucks because it's almost invisible.

I'll try changing out the batteries. It's a 553 model.

I never heard ofthat, which model and have you tried swapping in new batteries ??

if you need a loaner I have a 551 coming...

Let me know when the 551 comes Wes. I may want to check the reticle. Just to make sure it's not my eyes. I really don't want to send this one back.
By the way if you're going after the 553 you told me about, I'd send a PM quick to secure it.

Hhaha. I told him you were very interested in it and specifically asked me not to screw you over :D. The deal was if you changed your mind then I would buy it. I was pretty upfront that I didn't want to mess you over. ;) Although there was a lot of joking about the expression on your face if I showed up with it :D

I'll try the batteries. I'm going to go turn it on and let it work a while with the old batteries. Since it has improved since the first time, maybe I'll pray to the Eotech gods and hope this works out. Then I'll try some new batteries.

PM sent about the 551.

Don't expect the recticle image to be razor sharp

I talked with the L3/Eotech guy at our local Military Arms Fair.

He said that the images on the box and in the ads are deceiving. The recticle will always appear a bit fuzzy.

Said it had something to do with the pixel size of the laser dots (or some such thing)

I believed him, as he worked for the company, and was pointing out defficiencies!

Anyone have an Eotech where the reticle was nothing but a mass of red dots?

I can take a little bit fuzzy.

However in this case it was a mass of little red flecks that didn't look like anything. I've been playing around with it a while turning it on, off and upping the brightness etc. It now at least resembles a reticle. But then it will revert to something that doesn't even look close to the circle with a dot reticle. Also sometimes it looks like the centre dot is a 5 pointed star of red lines instead of a dot. Then it seems to fix itself.

I suspect it was damaged during shipping.
I'll check out some others to make sure.

Would it be possible to take a picture of the reticle and send it to EOTech?

Or post it here? It should appear as a reticle through all settings (except nvg mode, I suppose). Mass of red flecks is not normal.:)

Have you by any chance had your eyes lasered to correct vision? I have and to me, my eotech looks fuzzy. It doesn't to anyone else though. Any red dot sight I look into has fuzzy dots to me.

I had particulary bad vision and required a lot of lasering. Can't say for sure but that's what I arrtibute my fuzzy eotech vision to. Especially since it looks fine to everyone else.

I don't own a camera or I would have definitely taken a picture.

It seems to be fixing itself? It's still not perfect there is more red on the left than the right but it does look like a reticle now. Unlike before. However if you crank up the brightness for a while and then bring it back the reticle loses it's focus and the centre dot looks like a 5 pointed star.

The strange part is that it's way better than when I first turned it on. I was mortified. But still something isn't right with this. I wouldn't trust it at a range the way it is now nevermind as a combat optic.

The person I bought it from (A CGN member) has been great. It'll be made right. I'll be checking beforehand though to make sure it's not just me. The last thing I want to do is cause a headache to someone else for nothing.

Nope haven't had my eyes lasered. Unless that's what cranking up the brightness on this thing is doing :D

I have the same problem with some red dots, and everyone else thinks I'm nuts. I have excellent eyesight and I wonder if I'm just seeing detail in the center dot that some people can't pick up on.

EPO,
I've had my eyes LAZERED, and I've owned an Eotech ... ain't seen nothing at all like you mentioned about the eotech wierdness.

HOWEVER, after my LAZER surgery, I found I could no longer use a rear aperture sight well . ... the front sight seems to wiggle around left to right way more than it should. Best I can do with iron sights Post Lazer is about 1 1/2" - 2" depending on lighting conditions.
