Hi guys,
I just bought an Eotech EXPS2-0 1x and I'm awaiting delivery; I have no experience with these things (I once had a knock off 512 type on a 10/22 Archangel that I wasn't real impressed with); anyway, I'm currently in place where using my AR for field use is a real possibility (hunting and bear protection - and yes, here the bears are actually a real danger); my question is this, does anyone know or have first hand experience with using these sights in cold weather conditions? Particularly weather into the sub -40's 50's and lower? I'm sure it will say in the manual but right now I'm still in the waiting and dreaming stage.
Thanks

"While in operation, the EOtech can withstand a temperature range of -20 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, but while in storage, the sight can handle a temperature range of -40 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. The optics use parrallax-free transmission holography for minimal work to get a clear shot."

That is -28.8889 in degrees.

we use them in my Platoon at work. We went on Ex this past Jan, -30C and below in Petawawa for that period. The cheap military batteries died, the sights were fine.

Sorry I got to ask, where are you going to use your AR?

Indeed. My concern would be more about the batteries dying on me then the sight taking the cold.

Lol, lets just say somewhere far away where they don't care so much; as for use, mostly hunting but there are bears around as close as your doorstep. If only bear protection I would likely turn to the 'ol .303 but for hunting, strangely enough, .243 and .223 are the most popular calibers around here. It definately gets colder than minus 28, maybe I'll need to look at making a "tea cosey" possibly with one of those hand warmers in it.
