Eotech.. stupid question

I am going to get a Holographic like an Eotech in the new year, and I want it for both an XCR in .223 and my M14. When a scope is calibrated for a .308, that means it can deal with the recoil of the rifle it is designed for, correct? So by that assumption, anything for a large recoil(.308) will also work just fine for a smaller recoil(.223) right?

And I know it is a dumb question, but I have asked worse haha.

When a scope is "calibrated" for a certain caliber, this is referring to magnified optics with a range finding reticule or range adjustments. For example, you sight it in at 100 yards, and it has lines below the cross hairs designating the hold over point for 200, 300, 400, etc.

The Eotech is not a magnified optic, nor is it calibrated for any caliber. It is regularly mounted on .50 BMG machine guns, it can handle the recoil of your piddly little .308 rifle.
 
The only problem is that you will have to re-zero the sight each time you switch it between rifles.
 
Do NOT get the Chinese copy off of e-Bay, they are crap.
They do NOT use laser illumination but rather LED illumination. They are the ones that boast both a RED and GREEN reticle.
The recoil from an SKS causes them to turn off every 2 or 3 shots.
They look cool, probably work on an airsoft but not on a real firearm.

My bud has a Bushnell on his AR and I am leaning towards one. Can't afford a real EOtech.
 
I had the Bushnell one, it was very blurry at higher settings. 0-11 I think it went. Blur incresed over level 5. it was the Acog knock off.

* to speak about the original question: both the guns you mentioned are gas operated, recoil is much less than a bolt gun. It wont be an issue.
 
hoochie you deffenatly don't have an M14. It will eat up cheap optics and spit them out for lunch. The new bushnell holo's look almost just like the EoTech's 551. As a matter of fact scope coats work for both of them. As for price you can get a used bushnell (I have one on my 12g shotgun for 2 years now) for $200 and a used Eotech 551 for around $600 but the real kicker is tring to get warrenty work done on it. Ask canncer about the headaches he has got from tring to get warenty work on his EoTech. Here are some pic's to show you the similarties and differences.

The 557 is "calibrated" (has a bdc reticle) for SS109. Other Eotech models are available for other calibres (including .50BMG, model 552.XR500).

As for the OP, all of the knock-off "like an EoTech" sights are suspect - best to save and pony-up for a used EoTech or Holosight.

My mistake, completely forgot about the new Eotech sights. :redface:

The point of my post, that calibrating does not refer to recoil toughness, still stands.
 
this is something i've done quite a bit in the past

you can use an eotech with two rifles (for me I have two different lengths barrels for a m4)

anyway zero it on both and write down how many clicks windage and elevation the difference between the two weapons are.

you can take off the eotech, play hackysack with it, put it on the new gun and set the right amount of clicks and be good to go
