Eotech vs. Chinese knockoff

For a range gun, the Chinese 3x magnifiers are supposed to be adequate and line up well with both the EOtechs and Aimpoints. I wouldn't want to put a 3x magnifier in front of the 4moa dot of one of those Chinese FakePoints though.

Then you haven't seen the latest fakepoints. They have and nice clean small dot

I hate to throw cold water on this thread, but the original question was something along the lines of asking for comparisons, wasn't it? ... have any of you guys actually used a chinese knock off?

I mean, for target and range use ... would the chinese ones actually not be so bad?

I have been pondering the same questions as well but I have yet to meet anyone who actually used a chinese one for his take on the matter....

EDIT - ronin, I see you have listed Eotech 551 clones, what's the size of the dot they produce? What is your take on these little guys? They ok for the range?

I'll be honest,i'm not a fan of the Eotech clones myself..i used one for awhile and i think i got my money out of it though.
The dot is 5MOA(ish) and not as crisp as i'd like, but you have to spend more to get that.I pulled one apart and the elctronics were not sealed in silicone or anything. So i don't think they will stand up to heavy recoil for very long.On rimfires they will do just fine.

If you want a good red dot, have a look at the latest Laser marked Aimpoint clones, they are shock proof, have nice small clean dots and are extremely well built. You would not be disappointed, you may think someone screwed up and sent you a real one by mistake.
But the guys that have only bought the $20 NC Star Aimpoint knocks off will they you that they suck as well

Nope, the newest ones. They have the laser engraving on them, a fog-proof coating on the lenses and the little circut board sits in a gob of silicone to shock-proof them.

I bought one of those older style chinese knockoffs when jackyiscxd was still a user on this board. They were toys. The batteries frequently shorted out under the enormous recoil of my .22LR and like Ronin already mentioned, the dot was big 'n fuzzy. I got around the battery problem with some solder and electrical tape and the scope worked fine if all you're doing is blasting through a 25 round rimfire mag, but IMHO they were just a dress up item.

EDIT: The new ones sound much better, but I haven't tried one yet. I'm waiting for bits and pieces of my new 10/22 project to arrive and hopefully some reviews of these new FakePoints to surface before placing my order.

Have you ever dropped a c more ? :runaway:

Does that turn it into a 'C-no-more'?

I haven't seen the Chinese 3x attachments for the Aimpoints or Eotechs. Never knew those were around. I checked Ebay and a package deal 3x with quick detach mount from Hong Kong for $45 'Buy it Now' plus $20 shipping. Not bad I guess.

Without the QD mount some list at $20 'Buy it Now'.

Ronin - will you be vending some 3x knockoffs? I might be tempted to try one with my Eotech.

Sorry i can't answer that in this area of the board :(

But i can say that the 3x magnifiers are very simple devices, why anyone would pay for the real thing baffles me.

And watch the Ebay sellers that sell the sights and magnifiers super cheap, have a look at their feedback. Some of them sell factory seconds, and the customers receive marked up or DOA stuff.

I don't think there's a rule against linking to other boards so....

There was an informative thread on AR-15.com under AR-15 >> Optics, Mounts and Sights regarding the knock-off 3x magnifiers:

Why the hate for cheap sights? I bought a holo+laser for my Grizzly for $25 off Ebay brand new, it works great and has had no problem handling recoil of many a slug through the gun. Of course it isn't an Eotech by any stretch of the imagination, but for a giggle how can you go wrong? I'm not going to go storming insurgent dens with the thing.

A pic of the dot on the new engraved models that are out:

The camera takes away a bit of the glare, but the dot is still smaller and cleaner than the old ones.
