EPIC FAIL... How can IPSC support Action Air especially when they promote it this way

Something to note,...I do think it is a good way to get kids (who may be recoil shy) into the sport...but they should treat them with the same safety rules as real firearms.

Probably the same way the IDPA crowd feels about drop outs from IPSC taking over IDPA.:evil:

You are missing the point... entirely.. as a gateway activity, airsoft is second to none. A lot of people move on from airsoft to real firearms. They "catch the bug" so to speak with airsoft. I know this to be the case , having witnessed it over a dozen times.

If not for airsoft , most if not all of these people would have NEVER become licensed gun owners.

How is this a bad thing?
 
^^Because you learn bad habits. Finger on the trigger, muzzle direction, etc, go out the window with a toy gun. I know people that are into airsoft and paintball that i wouldn't want to take to the range with me. If you start with real firearms, the initial awe becomes respect for their design and purpose. Just mho.

A gateway activity is .22 rimfire, NOT a toy.
 
+1 mwjones and pottsy.

Airsoft is probably a great toy and game (I played paintball once or twice), but a Cooey .22 under supervision of an experienced shooter is the right way to learn firearms (ask my 6yr-old)

Actually the air gun (PAL or Non-PAL version) is your gateway to powderburners... stand in front of a air gun/pistol at 10 feet pushing a 10+ grain pellet at 400+ FPS or a airsoft pushing a 6mm plastic BB going at 400FPS... calculate the muzzle energy and tell us which one will cause more body harm?

It's why firearm safety with airguns is just as important as powderburner.

With airsoft the worst if not wearing eye protection is to loose an eye, the rest are welts so safety in comparison to adult airguns and powderburners is not as important to them... but they try.
 
Why not have a .22 division where new shooters start from a low ready.

It works for Steel Challenge and the shooters learn proper saftey and recoil management.

Maurice if you guys want to have a pi$$y over airsoft fill your boots but leave IDPA out of it. We don't shoot Airsoft in IDPA though if a club wanted to run a Airsoft side match..why not. All we are really doing is having safe fun with our toys.

We don't have any fears that former IPSC shooters are about to take over IDPA either. First I heard of that one. Amusing really.

If Airsoft gets more people into shooting sports or supporting shooting sports, we all benefit. As far as the antis are concerned they hate us from an old movie anyway and are not about to change anytime soon.

My point Maurice, is that the rulebook handles safety for firearms. As airsoft are not firearms, much of the rulebook or the safety considerations do not apply.
Case in point, why would it matter if someone had their finger in the 'trigger'? or broke '90' with an airsoft? This leads to other questions on the fundimentals of the sport itself. If airsoft can be used, and the biggest safety issue is getting a BB in the eye, why not just have a team event and shoot each other with them? Why is this affiliated with IPSC in the first place?

I don't buy into the whole entry sport idea - if this is the case there are other sports that do this as well, and they stand on their own merits.
I'm not against airsoft in general, I'm just concerned that airsoft that is in IPSC will further errode and ultimately could quite possibly destroy the sport.
