I bought this rifle a few years ago,it came with a Unertl scope.I sold the scope and the scope blocks that was a mistake.Trying to mount scope and it is not drilled and tapped for 98 mauser bases.I bought it from a guy in Ont maybe someone might remember it.I sent an email to Epps.

Normally there would be a standard set of Weaver bases (45/46) available but the rear hole spacing looks too long for the small rear base(45) made for the 98.

I tried 45 and 46 they do not work.I found that a 86 fits the hole spacing and the 45 and is the same height. The spacing for the front one might be the problem, 46 spacing is too much. The spacing on the receiver is about 5/8 center to center.

Go here: http://w w w.brownells.com/GunTech/W-R-Weaver-Company-Mount-Base-Specifications/detail.htm?lid=11214

It is a chart showing the hole spacing, thickness and base radius for many of the Weaver scope bases. If you want to use that #86 as rear, then look for one same thickness as #46 but correct hole spacing. Our else, try to find a pair that have correct hole spacings, with identical difference in thickness as between a 45 and 46. Having a selection of shimming material is always handy when trying to match up one-of-a-kind installations.

Another observation - I had a mauser that had been D&T'd, with hole spacings for 45/46 bases. Ran out of vertical adjustment in the scope trying to get sighted in. Substituted a 55 rear. Ran out of adjustment the other way. Had to put a shim under the 45 to get it to sight in. Point taken was that no guarantee that whomever ground the stripper clip lips actually left the original rear bridge surface intact, and therefore, I believe Weaver's and other scope base manufacturer's dimensions are based on an "average" which may or may not exactly apply to your rifle / rings / scope. That episode also got me into a lapping bar and learning to use it, at least as a check, for every set of rings I have mounted, since.
