This is a fun budget meaning i have more money to spend on a firearm but choose not to spend anymore then $250.

Always wanted a self loader in .22lr

Is the Erma ep-22 a good pistol? Any details are appreciated!

The general consensus is no....they seem to suffer from reliability issues and are hard to correct.
People that have ones that work seem to like them as plinkers but most people seem to post about issues with the gun. I recently bought one for a reasonable price to try out but I haven't made it to the range since I received it so I'm not sure how reliable it is other then the seller test fired a few mags without any problems.
The guns is Luger like in appearance but feels different in the hand compared to a Luger.
Bit of a novelty gun I'd say and parts are also an issue with these guns.

If it's your first auto loader .22 I'd look elsewhere for a used Browning or Ruger perhaps

Can-down is right. As long as it works you'll be very happy. But when it brakes down it'll be your nightmare. Earlier this year I had one on my bench due to a broken part. I couldn't find it even if I were paying for it in gold. I had to make it and I did it only because it was my friend's gun. Otherwise it wouldn't be worth to fix it. For $250 you can get Browning, Ruger or High Standard.

I once had a little Erma .22 pistol that was a kinda scaled down PPK. Can't recall the model number, though.... It was a good shooter and not fussy about ammo but it did not like CCI Stingers [too hot].

IIRC the EP22 is a Luger lookalike. Personally, for $250 I'd kick in a few more bucks and get a Ruger MkII or MkII .22 semi-auto..... ;)

I still have a 22 Erma Luger, only because it was the first handgun I ever owned. As has already been mentioned, there are better selections out there.
From what is still readily available, a Ruger would be a good choice. I've also had a Browning Challanger that was good bang for the buck and if you could locate that or the Nomad model would be another choice. And also as has beem suggested, a High Standard is another good choice.

I have one (still) plus lots of spare parts, mags etc. They are NOT a good first semi 22 pistol, and a real PITA to keep functioning reliable.

BTW, the definition of "reliable" for these guns is to shoot off ONE mag without a problem. Consider yourself lucky if you can get through 2 mags without a stoppage.

That said, they are a really neat looking pistol.

The Erma is prohibited due to barrel length anyway.

Actually they are talking about the Erma Luger copy, which is restricted.

The picture a couple of posts up is the Erma RX22 (It is also called something else in Canada) and is prohib as you mention.

Very similar to the Erma EP-652 my father has in .22lr. A very nice little plinker, though when he had it out of the safe to show me, it did feel a little on the cheap side, IMO.

You can find Ruger MK1 for 200-250 , same gun as mark 11 ,
except that they do not stay open on last shot and 9 and not 10 shot.
My first choice would be a hi standard, than a brownig.
buys can be had if you keep your eyes open.

Kodiak Outpost is bringing in some Phoenix Arms HP22's (5 inch barrel). Should be here in a few weeks.
