I've been trying to buy a "first" pistol for my wife (and yes she has her RPAL). I settled on the Erma EP22 based on some Internet research. She loves the look of the old Luger (old things in general, why she married me :), and a 22LR would allow her to shoot lots, cheap. I know Ruger makes some similar but I'm interested in the EP22 still.

So I found the Erma here at Armco . I should have noted the big thing saying Restricted as implying others were prohibs. I have found one I'd like to buy but it's prohibited and we don't have 12(6). The questions I have are 1) Are most/all EP22s prohibs? 2) Is it possible to convert a prohib EP22 to restricted with a barrell change? 3) Where would I get parts and how would I do that?

Thanks for the help!

For starters that is one of the worst pistols to buy . Yes they look cool & function like a real Luger . Except for one big difference the real Luger actually works . Those EP22's are a POS . I had one . they jam constantly . Get a Ruger or one of the other higher quality 22's

Buy a Buckmark UDX. Accurate, Reliable, cheaper than a Ruger, and a hell of a lot easier to disassemble and put back together when you clean it.

Thanks for the replies and recommendations. I'll try to restate what I need more clearly. Basically, we like the Erma because it LOOKS and Functions like a Luger. We also like old British sports cars, VW Beetles despite the lack of heat, Italian motorcycles, and so on. I shoot a Tokarev TT-33 for the historical value. So we're not too worried if it jams a lot or if it isn't accurate, we'd still like to get a restricted Erma. So, with that in mind, does anyone know how to go about either finding, or converting to, a restricted Erma EP22?

Well if you must have one there is one in the EE right now . Just listed and they are restricted NOT Prohibited

I agree, but having said that, it was the first handgun I ever had, and for that reason, still have.;)

I have Erma Luger LA22 and have great fun with it. As far as I know, neither LA22 nor EP22 do not have prohibited versions. Mine is very accurate, however jams often. It's picky about the ammo, since it needs high velocity rounds.

I tried lots of different .22LR high velocity rounds and found that Remington High Velocity Long Rifle 1522-A (marked "Extra Power Cartridges" on the box) work the best. They seem to be waxed and go into chamber tighter than, say, Federal ones - this is often the reason to jam. However, Federal, CCI, or Winchester high velocity rounds typically are not powerful enough to reliably cycle the Erma action.

I know Erma is not the best .22 pistol, but I just have fun with it.

That's funny because I have found one for sale and it is definitely registered as a prohib. I found this saying the barrel is 4.5":

Erma EP-22/KGP-69/KGP-68

Notes: The EP-22, also known as the LA-22, is modeled on the P-08 Luger, but chambered for .22 Long Rifle ammunition. It was produced from 1964-1971, and is basically of a similar size and of comparable weight to the Luger. Some rare variants of the EP-22 include the Navy model, with a 5.9-inch barrel (as opposed to the 4.5-inch barrel of the standard EP-22),

So maybe, probably the one I want has been mis-registered as a prohib? Maybe I can still get it!

The said Erma is a big POS,
crappy materials, jamming, etc.

Buy a Ruger Mk 2 or 3, 22/45,
or a Browning Buckmark
or a Hi-Standard and you will be happier.

Why is NON-RESTRICTED in the title of the thread?
Non-restricted like a long gun, or what?
