Hey guys,

I've been shooting PR for a few years now, I've been shooting with a Remington 700 SPS 223 in a MDT LSS chassis. I'm very pleased with how this little rig preforms, recently I purchased a Remington 700 .260 in the Magpul Hunter stock. After my great experiences with the LSS I naturally was attracted to the ESS for the next rig. I started saving my pennies but as the last few weeks have gone by I have wondered if there is a more preferable/economical option than an ESS. I'm not a huge fan of the Hunter stock, its lite but just doesn't feel rugged enough for me hence the aluminum chassis, any suggestions? I will be competing with this rifle in PR and PRS matches.

Masterpiece arms has a great looking chassis with lots of options but it's expensive. Check out Precision rifle blog .com he has a great site with all the top stocks and more.

As far as aluminum chassis go it's very hard to beat MDT bang for your buck, customer service is also phenomenal, the ESS chassis is a very nice piece and a great value, I have a couple LSS and a ESS myself and am very happy with my choice.

I just got two ESS chassis this week, they were waiting for me when I got home from a week long family vacation! I just assembled them and played a little with dummy rounds to make sure function was good. So far I am impressed and will be shooting one day this week coming and will report back, but so far I like these chassis.

I've run an ESS for a few months now (mainly for PRS and PRS-type matches and training) and quite like it. The MPA is probably the chassis to get if your main focus is PRS-type matches though. The attachments made for it (barricade stop, etc) are really nice. You can adapt pretty much any stock/chassis for that particular type of shooting but the MPA is designed from the ground up for that. I know some guys that have adapted other chassis to use the MPA attachments and I believe you can also run them on some Manners stocks with the mini-chassis as well.

So I put the order in for the ESS, what mags are guys running, accurate mags? AI? I love the MDT poly .223 mags but not the .308 so much ......more importantly is there any I should be avoiding?

Thanks

I'm using the MDT polymer 10-round mags, and they seem to work flawlessly (can load the full 10 rounds). The only problem is you're limited to 2.805" c.o.l.

I have one of their 5-round steel mags and it works great too. IIRC you can load to 2.875"?

They're supposed to be releasing their 10-round metal mags soon..........but who knows what 'soon' means ;)

Right now i just got back to polymer 308 mags for ESS
Feed great, when used with 9 rounds.
At 2.735'' OAL with 175 SMK i can perfectly load them in anything!
Don't ask why the throat so short on my 10TR, still one of lifes mysteries at this moment.

I was going to buy their new mags (MDT) comming up, metal 10 rounds, which has a single plate inside in front, allows same OAL as accurate mags.
Will wait until lands wear out a bit before spending in longer mags.

Thanks for the input, I purchased a steel 5 rounder just to make sure I have something around while I figure it out, I'd like to see the MDT 10 round steel mags!! Ill take 5 (at least)!!! Should be interesting to see the price point on those babies...

I was running Magpul AICS 10 rounders in mine and they ran fine with an OAL around 2.845 or so. The max oal you can get away with is 2.870 but I found when going from a bullet with a polymer tip to one with a pointed meplat (RDF) that the tips would drag on the front of the mag and sometimes cause missfeeds. I'm running Accurate-Mag 10 rounders now (without the binder plates) and they run great with a max COAL of something like 2.890 (I'd be jammed at that length). An added bonus is that I run one of the Seekins +2 mag extensions on one of my mags and it runs great with 12 rounds. The +2 extensions for the Magpuls didn't run well for any of my buddies who tried them out.
