Ethical limits of 20GA Sabots

Just my opinion, but a 20ga Sabot is a 120 yard Whitetail deer load.

Totally dependant upon firearm utilized I am a bit more generous modern 20 gauge sabot with speed of sub caliber projectile at or above 1700 fps.

Example: Tar Hunt bolt action, Ithaca Deerslayer with fixed rifled barrel and H&R Ultra Slug Hunter.
These modern rifled shotguns with good optics paired with speedy 20 gauge sabot ammo.
These three and others of equal accuracy are 200 yard deer guns IMHO. If shooter is up to the task.

Be well

I don't think anyone will argue that 20GA sabots won't make for good deer loads. The question is how much further can you push such a load? Judging from similar muzzleloader loads, I'd argue that moose, bear, elk etc. can also be on the menu but seldom do we see 20GA outside of the deer woods for some strange reason. I don't even recall seeing hunts where hogs were being hunted using 20GA sabots...

I suggest the biggest realistic hurdle here is cost alone.
A decade ago high speed 20 sabots went for most of $20 per five over the counter.
That's doable for a deer or two even three one season.
But in target rich environment wild hogs not so much affordable now. Turn you head at ammo shelf you can find adequate 12 gauge foster slugs much less pricey.

my 2 bits

True, but imagine you're just dipping your toes into hunting. You only want to buy a single firearm at first. A 20GA sabot gun lets you do deer primative season, deer rifle season, moose, bear, elk, not much off the table for a single firearm. I don't think many hunters have caught onto this fact in canada. It might become cost effective from that point of view!
