euclidean Mosin sight

Hello,

He copied the Smith-Sights Classic Target Sight for his design, and admitted it when I called him on it via email.

The adjustment tool is basically just an Elby Sight Tool (http://elby.yolasite.com). Bruce has been extensively copied.

There are so many directions he could have gone in innovating a front sight; there's some ways to do it I've explored but haven't implemented, yet anyway, and there is definitely room for innovation.

But he just took a copy of my sight and copied it on modern machinery. (I use surplus sight bases only because folks tend to like a sight that is original to the Mosin.)

It's just a rip-off of my design.

Regards,

Josh

I was disappointed in the quality of the adjustment tool. It had a brass end to prevent the adjustment screw from getting mauled while turning it against the sight. My sight was tight and the brass end broke off right away. Now the screw is mushroomed on the end and can't be removed.

only if it is patented.

Do you realize the cost in time and money to enforce a patent across international borders? It's time and money small businesses don't have. I'm aware of several items both for the Mosin-Nagant and the 1911 that that are copied outside of the nation in which they were invented. The small businesses who started them simply can't get any enforcement on the patents.

Most people are also not actually aware that many Mosin front sites can be drifted off the base and if you flip them over you can actually see the bottom of the front post site.
It's punched up into the sight base.
The bottom of the front post pin has a slight flange to stop it from going any further up.
If your Mosin is shooting only a couple inches high, you can take a punch and a large hammer and smash the front post into the base from the bottom to push it up higher by an 8th of an inch or so.
If it then goes too high you just file it down slightly until it's exactly POA to POI.
If THAT didn't work I would probably buy a sight off the EE with a higher post for pennies vice spending $70 before tax and shipping then just file it down while shooting on the range until it was POA to POI exact lol But that's just me!
I also slowly file my Mosin front posts down on the sides to make them less than half the actual width. Improves consistency and accuracy significantly vice using the very very wide standard front post.

These tools are waste of money. They are too flimsy to work properly, no matter who makes them. In order to move Mosin sight the armorer has to clamp the barrel in the soft jawed vise and drift the sight assembly with proper punch. Sometimes one need a bigger hammer to budge it.
Second thing is that barrel thickness varies from year to year. during ww2 they made barrels so rough and thick that even standard bayonets won't fit. Even bayos won't fit from rifle to rifle, so how do you expect this tool to work on all rifles? I won't even get in M38 or M44 territory as barrels were made out of speck as it was up to machinist at the factory to decide how much metal to take off.
Invest in proper vise and good bench, quality brass punches that will work on all future projects, that's my advise.

I acquired the Euclidean Mosin sight from Travis at Euclidean Machine Works Inc. in April 2016 for my refurb Mosin 91/30. I had no problems with removing the old front sight with the attached tool although it was tight. The new sight works perfect. I’m happy that I bought it. I can now accurately shoot at any distance I wish. I recommend it to any owner of a Mosin 91/30. This is $68 well spent (shipping included).

They make a solid product that's made in Canada for a fair price. Can't complain. Hopefully I can get out to the range this weekend and give it a test toast.

Most people who copy others' products also make inferior versions.

Canada is known for so many cool innovations. I don't understand how a knockoff of another's product "made in Canada" can be anything other than a source of shame.

I would be livid over any "made in the USA" product that only copied an idea.

It's a matter of honor if nothing else.

Josh

Pretend you're in Russia. Anything you invent simply benefits the country and it's people. That always works! ... Right...? Communism was and is still a viable option...right?
