I have lost count as to the number of times I've been out deer hunting and seen piles of grouse....only to be carrying a firearm completely unsuited to potting a delicious game bird. Grumble.
Enter the Crosman 2240. A .22 caliber CO2 powered air pistol that delivers a 14ish grain pellet at 460 fps. PLENTY of power to cleanly take grouse at the ranges I have been seeing them at. A little research (OK...I bought one) finds that (despite a crappy trigger and iffy sights) these little pistols are capable of remarkable accuracy. Best of all...there are TONS of aftermarket parts available to make them better.
Now for the Eureka! part: The Ontario hunting regs specifically mention that hunting with an air pistol (under 500 fps) is allowed. Perfect! All I need to do is find a suitable holster and I'll be set for next year.
Any thoughts?
