anyone have experience with the euroarms kentuckian rifle? looking at the one on the EE and just want some knowledge on that specific make and model. its the percussion 45 cal.

edit: this would be my first black powder rifle and would like to make the right purchase.

I would ask for a maker's mark to see who made it. It's likely Armi Sport/Chiappa or Invest Arms.
Also, what is your intended use for the rifle? 50 caliber seems to be the most popular these days and typically the supplies most readily available on the shelf will be for 50 caliber.

If you really want to get into BP shooting I'd say grab it. .45 caliber in these guns are very accurate and hard hitting with lead RB. You can get a mold from Lee, find a source of lead and make your own. Track of the Wolf has all you will need to shoot and take care of it. Pyrodex P will work fine or of course Goex FFG but expensive. Clean up is a chore but all part of the joy of BP. Good luck.
 
thanks guys, i just wanted to know if the euroarms stuff was well built or if it has problems. being BP it is fairly simple, percussion removes the flintlock issues that i know the euroarms stuff had issues with. i did a quick look an cabelas has 45 cal rb in stock and its only 40 mins from me so thats good.

Using .45 cal you might consider using fffg rather than ffg- smaller calibers seem to like it better and clean-up is a bit easier. Rule of thumb for getting load right is shoot with same amount of powder as your caliber then go up or down to refine accuracy. I have always gotten decent results with this formula. Cheers

thank you for that info, that was sort of my next question. how much powder, recommended patches etc. il be doing a fair bit of reading on it i think
 
Forgot to say in my first post, I had a 45 caliber that was marked "The Kentuckian". It was not imported by Euroarms and did not have their name on it. It was made by Invest Arms. It was a one piece stock and had very nice wood. OP. from what I remember it was quite similar to what you are looking at.
 
If the barrel says .45 cal try using a .440 ball with 15 thou lubed patch- Crisco will work in a pinch as lube, 45 grains fffg and have at it. Try 5 shots from a rest at 25 yards to find out what the piece is doing and get you used to the sight picture and then expand your horizon to 50 then 75 and so on. Our range has a moose at 160 yds and some of us ring it regularly.
