European Hunting Rifles

I had a T3 hunter as well, also a very nice rifle. Slick action, simple worked well. Bought the steyr and sold it though.

I hear alot of good from t3's. No bag limit deer! Where do you live if you don't mind me asking?
Rep. Ireland . On the south coast, Co. Cork.
We have about 1-2hr drive to get into good deer area. Mainly Sika deer. Weather is often wet and ground awkward to walk. We mostly do 1 trip per week in the season.
I don't sell deer or meat, just for ourselves and friends. Average a deer per outing.

Nice, slightly jealous at how many deer you have

Used pre-SBS Steyr Mannlicher Luxus (the one with the in-line metal magazine) or Sauer 90. Those two are available for the price of a new Sako and are, IMO, much, much nicer rifles. You can sometimes find them in minty shape too. Keep in mind that those rifles cost $3000 to $4000 +25 years ago.

Another one to consider is the Voere Titan II, which is the same as the Mauser 225. They can be had for $1500 or so in excellent condition. Exceptionally accurate, incredible smooth action and ridiculous triggers. Downside is that they are heavy and the detachable magazines are just about unobtanium.

Curious what the OP will purchase, let us know which way you go!

Also, there is Haenel Jaeger (which look nice but I don't know much about) as well as Krico for euro rifles, they seem quality and should be roughly under $2K depending on new/used or model and where you buy them from

Thanks! Looking at the Swiss Sig SHR970

I have three. I bought two from Prophet River and one from Trade EX. Fantastic rifle. But as far as I know parts cannot be found. Spare barrels are few and far between. The bolt locks into the barrel, so if you shoot out the barrel, you must rebore the barrel or get a custom gunsmith to build you a new barrel using the old. That said I love my rifles.

It appears from my reading on line that the Sig 970 is still produced for the European market. But nobody imports into North America. That is a shame.

I found a year 1921 Mauser hunting rifle in 8mm. The stock is in rough shape, but the metal is excellent. I'll order a new stock and refinish the metal. It will cost a fraction of a new mauser, so I can start saving for my ar 15 ;)

I absolutely love my Zastava M70 in 6.5x55, good luck finding a better made rifle at that price. The adjustable trigger beats any that I've seen on domestic made guns, the wood is gorgeous, bluing also, and there's not a millimeter of plastic on it

I'll spot you a Parker Hale 1100 lightweight in 6.5x55...used in the $400-$500 range. I have a pair of M70's and they are nice, but lack some refining and smoothness of the older PH and HVA rifles. Still good guns, but I'd search out another PH or HVA if I was after a smooth Mauser.

HVA 1600 in 6.5x55
