Looking for some help. There's a thread on here that I can't find. It was a thread showing a euro mount of a moose and how the guy went about hanging it in a rather bombproof method. The guy who did the thread was from Cochrane or around Cochrane area. Any help appreciated.

tks

My daughter did a European mount on the Alberta Mulie I got in 2003. It turned out she did a great job with all the finer bone structures all in tact. It's a fairly tall but narrow set with a little bit of trash and as an actual trophy the horns are nothing special. I'm not really a trophy hunter but what makes it a 'trophy' for me is that it was my first Alberta Mulie hunting with my daughter & son in law :Dand the mount now sits front & center on my den wall.

I Euro mount all the antlers I'm getting now, none of which are super big or anything. Just looks cool in the office, and I can give 'em away for charity on occasion! My guess with a moose or an elk you'd need some kind of plate that fits inside the braincase, and that plate is then bolted to the plaque. I know the Europeans have various sizes, some for their red deer and others for the fallow deer. (Mulies you just need three wood screws, no biggie.)

I just fill the brain case with bondo. Make sure you tape all the holes where it might ooze out from the inside Then when the bondo is cured screw through the back of the plaque into the bondo. I also use very stout picture frame hangers that I screw in at the same time, so everything is nice and strong. At first I thought the bondo might affect the color of the bone, but it doesn't.

have fun

I hung my euro mount moose with a heavy duty wood screw into the stud on my wall
it is pretty sturdy and has been hanging problem-free for over a year and a half
I imagine it would work fine for yours, unless your moose is the 120" 168 point 2500lb alaskan moose that I got a picture of in that mass email!!

oh ya here is the link to my original thread

Noel's moose fell off the wall and crushed him.......;)

Might wanna call someone else.

uh-h-h-h-h-hhgh, my head................

The benifit of not screwing it to the plague is it is so much easier to mount it on the wall. Carry the three pound plague up the ladder, screw to the wall and then pack the 50lb beast up and simply slip the cable over and done. It is easily removed for your next photo prop or avatar pic too.

The teeth will pummel your drywall if you put it up without something to take the abuse. My Ram skull sure took alot of paint off.
