It appears lately that there is not a shortage of powders from Europe for sale. I was wondering if anyone has tried to substitute any of these powders for Unique and what the results were?

A few people are asking about Vihtavuori substitutes for other unavailable powders, e.g. H4831SC. IMO you can substitute other powders that have a similar Burn Rate, i.e. you'll use about the same amount and get about the same MV's, but your results might be very different accuracy-wise.

The closest Vihtavuori powder to Unique (which is unique!) would be N330 IMO. N320 would seem a bit faster, but would be worth a try as well.

Of course, the usual precautions apply.... Use the appropriate load data for the powder you are using, and work your way up.

The Lyman 49th has V-V data in it; I'm pretty sure the Lee 2nd edition and Hornady 8th edition do as well. Besides, Vihtavouri publishes their own load data.

The one thing I've noticed from everyone I know running the viht powders is that they seem to be extremely clean burning. At least it seems the case in pistol powders. I have to try the pound of N350 I bought to use in my 357Sig.
