i ve seen from Norway via NINA and from Sweden hunting groups so it can very interesting at least for me.

Schultz and Larsen where the first to chamber the 7x61 S&H I belive but it is was an American developed cartridge if I remember correctly, not really European. I may be wrong but read the history of of it a while back
It's kind of inaccurate to even imagine that the 8x57 Mauser would be popular because of the military rifles from WWII. For one thing, France bans the use of military calibres.
That is 1,313,000 hunters right there who wouldn't use one.
In Germany and Austria hunting is a rich man's game. For one thing 8x57 military Mausers were confiscated in 1945 and besides, those gentlemen wouldn't be willing to be seen in public with a recycled old army rifle.
Instead, look for expensive double rifles and drillings in:
5.6x50R Mag., 5.6x52R, 6x62R Freres, 6.5x57R, 6.5x65R,
7x57(R), 7x65R, .30R Blaser, 8x57IRS, 8x75RS

Actually, you're correct. The 7X61 Super (S&H) was developped after Sharpe got ahold of a French military prototype cartridge and the .280 Halger (a overpressure .280 Ross). Since Sharpe never reached Halger velocities without getting MAP pressures of 70 000 PSI (CUP!) he decided to start his own. The 7X61 S&H is also almost identical in internal volume with the Ross.
The thing is that in those days, the main Belted Magnum cases manufacturer was Norma, it was normal that they ended up making and marketing the S&H. The 7mm name scared the US users, as many others did before (except the 7mm RM...)
On the other hand, both the .358 and .308 Norma Magnum were intended for US market...
As for Scandinavian moose hunting goes, today the 30-06 and 300 Win Mag might be the biggest sellers.

No, you're right,
but it's about as close as I can come. I wanted the big three items of cooperation between Norma and Schultz & Larsen as the Schultz is my favorite bolt action. - 7x61 S&H

In the meantime, I do have a very nice Husqvarna model 1651 in 358 NM
You're quite correct Baribal. I 'cheated' a bit as the three were basically cartridge loadings and firearm chamberings that were made available, from Europe.
As I've been led to believe, following commercial loadings and chamberings of the 7x61 S&H, the North American manufacturers brought about the 7mm Remington Magnum. Following that, and in an effort to compete with this newcomer, apparently Norma changed the internal profile of the 7x61 S&H case and also changed the metallurgy in an effort to increase the case capacity. This later production brass is head stamped Super 7x61.

Another interesting thing which I've noticed is that although the WSM calibers have not taken off in a big way in NA, they seem to be really be popular in Europe, especially in France which seems to craze over the 270 WSM. Conversely, I find the 7x64 equally intriguing.

I too have both the 308 NM and 358NM both have killed sambar deer and are not safe queens. The 358 is a monster of a cartridge with power galore to rival the 375 H+H... gonna try a 180 grainer in it for 3300 fps for something flat with a wallop....love it

The 358 in synthetic leaning on a Wild cherry tree a favourite tree for stags to rub,note wallow mud also on it.

. Adimttedly, with the increasing years, some of the 'residents' in my safe don't get the field exposure they used to. Even so, they still aren't safe queens as they still get a good amount of range time even though the field use may have been reduced. I still enjoy the testing/trying different load and component combinations including the testing and shooting.
