Ever buy guns you don't shoot?

Yup. Been there done that. Got the t-shirt....

Currently have about 10 rifles that I own that I've never shot....

X2
Plus I have 4 New ones still in the boxes that they were shipped in not even unwrapped.
Better yet there are 2 Ruger Compacts that have been here for 2 years & there still in the brn. wrapping paper from WSS.DAN>>>

only one I can think of was a Savage 99 in 243 I traded for a VXIII (rifle came with a 4-12 VXI)...swapped it for cash I think

I don't even think I'm capable of that. I've bought a bunch of guns over the years strictly for resale, just because they were great deals. Could never resist trying them out, even if only for 20 or 30 rounds. I even bought a like-new Weatherby MkV once (for $300!!!) and drove to my local shop to see about trading it in. Wasn't a fan of the style, but had a box of ammo in the lock-up for it, so tuned right instead of left, went home, took'er out behind the barn, and...still have her, six years later, plus a couple of others as well. I would never have known how well that stock design works for me if I hadn't tried it.

How could you resist trying out a new-to-you gun? What if it's the tackdriver that we're always looking for? What if you fall in love with it? You never know!

I think some of us would end up keeping every rifle we ever fired, and collections would be much larger than originally anticipated!:D

I bought a new Winchester 30-30 about 25 years ago and it has never been fired. a couple times a year it gets the barrel wiped with an oiley patch and the outside wiped down with Birchwood Casey Steath, and a new coat of stock wax about every 5 years then hung back up on the rack.

Never. Guns don't get bought to gather dust in my safe. I don't feel I own the gun until it's fired and frequently take a new non-restricted acquisition into the backyard and bang off a round or two just to declare it's mine. The longest any gun has sat in my house without being fired is a 7 days.

NEVER ... and they're not part of the "family" till they've smoked some clay or have otherwise been "blooded" in the field ... until then, we really haven't formed a bond ... and are regarded pretty much as unproven rookies.

use em

Lots just sit.have a dozen or so handguns I cant remember the last time I shot. Many rifles that are handled oiled & out back. Like most I have fav. to use the rest are pieces of art that bring joy by handling & looking. I have 3 curio cabinets full of knives that don't get used & thats OK too.:) AJ

I've got a couple of "spares" that just get pulled out and maintained every once in a while; I never purposely buy a safe queen, but if I've already got a duplicate rifle on the go as a shooter, I won't start using a brand new "spare" as well, I'll leave it alone until my shooter is done for. I'd rather have one "used" and one "new" than two identical used guns.

I have a few in the safe like Joe that won't get fired. I have sold a few that I have never fired for one reason or another. I have enough that I enjoy firing that the "collectors" can just be admired. I also have a car in my garage that gets less than 500 miles a year and usually 100 of those are put on by my boys! If for some reason I need a caliber that is in my safe to hunt with I wouldn't be afraid to use it, but there are enough go to rifles that will get the job done that I can have a few that I don't need to shoot. My oldest son doesn't get it either and he is 25.

Not me. If they're in the safe and don't get used, they're gone. Years ago I 'tried' collecting and had five variations of the Colt New Service. Collecting just isn't for me. It's like watching paint dry. I'm not knocking it if that's what a guy likes, its just not for me so I shed them and bought some shooters.

I try not to, but it has happened a few times.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. Although I do have a new Browning stainless/laminated BLR in 358 Win & a new Browning High Wall 125 year anniversary edition (with gold inlays) in 45-70 that haven't been fired yet.

Well, I'm in this club too. My intention is to shoot them all, but #### happens. In fact, I'm in this situation right now with a Savage 7mm that just got replaced by a shiny Ruger in 300 win mag - along with it's little brother 77/22.

This Gunnut stuff is a disease.
