Sure glad you posted this. Only a few weeks ago, I was slowly walking back to the camp when I heard what I though was a dog bark. I stopped, listened and it barked again. I slowly advanced and saw 4 deer that immediately bolted and the largest one gave out a few more barks on its way northbound. It was more of a bark than a grunt but my hunting buddies wouldn't buy it.......

Sure glad you posted this. Only a few weeks ago, I was slowly walking back to the camp when I heard what I though was a dog bark. I stopped, listened and it barked again. I slowly advanced and saw 4 deer that immediately bolted and the largest one gave out a few more barks on its way northbound. It was more of a bark than a grunt but my hunting buddies wouldn't buy it.......
A fawn was in my parents backyard, and there was a doe on the other side of the fence making a variety of vocalisations throughout my brother's attempts to corral it back to the gate. Some of the noises had us laughing, there were a few squeaky screams in there for sure.

Been snorted at many times. You know the jig is up when that happens. Often they will stamp a front foot to get you to react. Bleat,grunt, but can't say I've heard one scream at me yet. Maybe he'd been shot before....

Wife kids and I packed in to the bush to camp, miiddle of nowhere.
3 in the morning I woke to my wife poking me with her elbow, didnt take long to know why. Our tent was surrounded by one of the creepiest sounds I have heard in the woods. The kids started waking one by one with terrified looks on their faces.
Wife says "got a gun?", "yeah" I says. "Then why are you in here still!".
I jumped out shotgun in one hand ànd flashlight in the other. I had no idea what I was going to see, I just knew there were lots of them and they made a chilling noise.
It was just deer, I was relieved but still creeper out. They stopped the squeeling sound as soon as I turned on the flashlight, and went back to normal stomps and wheezes. I will never forget that sound.
