Has anyone ever heard of this make/model?

Remington 1100 SPORTSMAN 2 3/4" chamber, 28"VR, Wood Stock

Not an 11/87 as I know they have a SPORTSMAN line but the venerable 1100. I have searched the web and can find no reference to this model.

I ask because a very reputable retailer assures me he has one in stock and stands by the model name (a model that was discontinued somewhere between 2-4 years ago) at a REALLY good price new in box and I tried to look it up on the web but couldn't find any reference to it.

He is about 5 hours drive away so I can't go and see it.

Has anyone heard of this or owns one or knows someone who owns one and can give me an idea as to what it is?

Thanks in advance

I googled up a few references to that model.
I have been talking to a buddy that is an avid trap shooter and he advised me to pick up a 2 3/4" Remington 1100. Well Wednesday I found one. This particular 1100 hasn't been manufacturered since 2004 if the info I have is correct. The 1100 in question is a Remington 1100 Sportsman Synthetic and is new in the box.

It features a 2 3/4" chamber, 28" vent Rib Barrel with Rem Choke Tubes (only one is included, modified choke), a Matte Finish on the Metal and Synthetic Stock and Forend. When I shoulder this Shotgun it fits me perfectly. I pondered my decision after I left the gun shop and the next morning called the owner of the gun shop and told him to put it on hold for me until I could get there to pick it up.

I think they had the whole line in "Sportsman" models starting in the 80's.
I bought an 870 Sportsman in the 80's.

The gun you're refering to is probably the Model 11 Sportsman. It's not an 1100.
Follow this link to the Remington site to read a bit more about it.

With all due respect (as I'm sure you are much more knowledgeable on these things than I), I think Dinsdale has it right on the nose. I was assured that it was a "Sportsman" and that it was an 1100. Also that it had been discontinued in the past 2-4 years which would put it right in line with the quote that Dinsdale had. It is brand spankin' new.

Salesman said that he was expecting synthetic stocks on it when he opened the package and was surprised to find wood. Also said "matte finish" and it does have a 28"VR Rem Choke and 2 3/4" chamber.

The salesman sounded as if it were the old maid found in the back of a closet during a clean up or something (didn't exactly say that though). Hey, maybe someone swithched the stocks to please another eager customer waving cash in the proprieter's face one day, and since the stocks were not original it got stuffed in a back room. who knows.

Anyway, I bought it sight unseen for a hell of a price (new in box). We'll see what the hell it is when it arrives. Heck anything made by Remington that starts with an 11XX works for me.

Thanks guys

Anyone else ever heard of this?

Keep the replies coming................

Well Dinsdale..

Your source was 100% correct. It arrived today. Says 1100 SPORTSMAN right on the side of the box. Well it's written in pencil on the side of the box... NO, No, just kidding. A real Remington product info sticker.

Here are some pics.

It's just as the dealer said it was. Not that I doubted him, just that I couldn't back up what he told me on the internet.

Great gun. Even greater deal. What do I care if it was discontinued model from a couple of years ago. It's NEW IN BOX and for gods sake and ITS an a Remington 1100! How could you possibly go wrong?

Nice gun!

If you don't mind... how much?

It looks a lot like my 1100 Magnum, except mine has bluing and glossy wood. I actually don't mind the parkerized look... except for the engraving. Mine has that too (a little more detailed) but with the bluing it looks okay.

Either way, the 1100 is a GREAT semi shotgun. Just remember to keep it clean and replace the O-ring at the first sign of jamming/short stroking.

Without giving exact numbers, let's just say that it's less than half of what I can buy ANY current version of an 1100 for locally at the moment and par with what some people are asking for a used one on this site.

Now to be fair, I DO realize that being parkerized, and having the non-glossy stocks makes it less valuable, but I'm sure she still shoots like an 1100?

I do have a 1978 - 1100 that I bought off this site with the blue and the high gloss stock and I just love it. Easy to keep clean I think. Maybe it's just because I enjoy cleaning them.

I buy Viton O-Rings (Size #021) from a local hydraulic store anywhere from $0.40 - $0.80 each depending whether the owner is manning the counter, or his son. I'm still on my first ring. No signs of deterioration. I have 5 more tucked away in my shooting bag. I wonder if I will ever use them all.

just be sure and clean it up thoroughly BEFORE you shoot it- i got mine back in 75 and it short-stroked right out of the box- cleared up after a box or two of shells

Lovely

It's really nice!

I just got a near new 870 Express in the EE here that I really like, but I'd love to have an 1100 too!
