Never forgot the ammo(yet) but have had a couple trips where I went through all I had, sighting in, and re-sighting in, due to a series of trips, falls, and other incidents (like a superman off a quad, while it rolled over).

Now I take pretty much all I can, with me.

I think on average, the guys that handload are more like to have a BUNCH of ammo available to take with, where the average guy that shoots a couple rounds a season, likely does not keep as much ammo on hand, eh. That latter guy would be the one more like to benefit from the 'wisdom' of buying a caliber that he can get anywhere.

Nope, 1st thing I do when packing is to put the ammo in my gun case. So if I forget my ammo then I forgot my rifle too. But the last 3 years I haven't had to worry as my guns are stored at my hunting location along with my ammo. I hunt with 30-30 or 444 Marlin so 444 Marlin would be the only hard one to find. I have 5 boxes of it stock pile from Hornady to make sure I have enough.

I don't understand why, if you are using trigger locks, you wouldn't change over to the combination type. No keys, one combo for all.

Because the effing combo locks are $15 a piece rather than 3 for $20. Still, I've thrown enough trigger locks out due to lost keys that a combo would probably have been more economical.

We should start a WTT Sticky on the EE for trigger locks. Everyone post the brand, quantity and key number and we can help each other out in condensing the nonsense that is trigger locks.

Whaddya mods think?

Never forgotten ammo, since I pack it with the rifle. Never forgotten a detach magazine as I prefer hinged floorplates and never forgotten a trigger lock key since I don't transport with triggerlocks! :)

K well it wasn't BF no where, but close enough. I was heading to Goose Bay, Labrador to visit some family and sneak in some bird hunting...brought the 12g, forgot to pack my ammo. Ended up paying $26 for a box of Winchester target loads...$1 a shot for ####in lead shot...I couldn't believe it!

I've never forgotten ammo but was in a camp where one of the party left the key for his gun lock on the key ring to his truck which had been left with the outfitter. It was a fly in camp and we found out the problem on opening morning.

The son-in-law took a butter knife and had the lock off in about 20 seconds. So much for the government mandated security This is the reason I do not own even one gun lock. The last one I had (some one gave it to me) I threw in the garbage.

I did head over to BPS tonight to drop $500 on new gear but guess what.. I get outta my truck in the parking lot and NO WALLET! 45 minute drive! I was sooooooo d:h:

Went out with dad once when I was about 14 or so, I had a 308 and he had a 308 Norma Mag. I packed the ammo and just grabbed the 308 stuff for my gun, not knowing the difference at the time. Luckily we came upon a little store/gas station/post office type place that had an old box of Normas there. Dont remember what he paid for them but I know he said his butt was sore after. And they were older than dirt! lol but they worked fine and the trip was saved

Sort of... went for moose and left my 35 Whelen 250 grain handloads behind, but had some 200gr factory remingtons packed with me for deer or whatever.

Even diverted into (opposite of BF nowhere) Edmonton on my way into northern AB but could not find a single box of factory 250's that November. As it turned out the kill shot was broadside & relatively close, so it didn't really matter in the end.
