Ever shoot slugs from a pistol grip ?

How did it feel ? hurt?

im 2 curious, just picked up some 2 3/4 , 1oz super X slugs for my mossberg 500 to fire 2moro.

I was thinking about 3" but I had some sand ichin my vigana.
 
I've done it a few times (folding stock) just for ####s and giggles, but never while trying to hold the gun at arm's lenght. I simply braced and fired "from the hip", the recoil itself was "manageable" but my hand did tingle for a few hours afterwards, probably because your typical shotgun pistol grips aren't all that ergonomic and all the recoil was taken directly by the meaty part of my hand between my thumb and index finger.
 
I've shot some 3" slugs with a pistol grip, having folded the stock on the M37 Tactical I use to own. Bracing my wrist on the forward side of my hip seemed to help with the recoil. After a few boxes I had a bruise on the web of my hand. Buckshot and 2 3/4 slugs are more pleasant to say the least!
 
So in other words, completely useless unless you're impressed by blowing up milk jugs or tipping over steel plates at a range. Inaccurate, uncomfortable and ridiculous if you really needed a gun for self defence or hunting. But lots of giggles for the adolescent types on this forum. REAL military, hunting or target guns do not go to extremes for a good reason. They actually have a function to perform. Making noise and causing painful recoil is not a function.
 
You can shoot pretty accurate with a pistol grip, by holding the slide forward with a straight arm, and holding it firmly in your right hand.

Good enough for 25-40 yards on a bear, anyway.
 
Yep....once, I learned good I did and bought a Knoxx specops recoil reducing stock.

Funny the security guards over here all carry shotuns with only pistol grips, although I don't expect they get much chance to practice with them.

I think anything that has the potential of hurting you and that subsequently results in a flinch is a bad idea. A guy here got chased under his truck by a bear, and fired at it with his pistol grip shotgun only to have it come back and hit him in the teeth. The bear was no worse for wear. A shotgun is not a pistol, and attempting to shoot one like it is will not produce desirable results on the target or the shooter.
 
Like anything, it's all good until you do something stupid. Slugs and pistol grips can easily be done as police and mil do it as breeching round when dedicated frangible rounds aren't available. At a range, it is fun for about 5 shots. You get tired of the recoil pretty quick. As stated before, just make sure you shoot from the hip as pistol griped shotties were made to do.
 
the only comfortable way to shoot a pistol grip(only) shotgun is at arms length,one handed imo.the angle of your wrist at pretty much any other position leaves all the recoil in your hand and wrist.There's a reason they put butt stocks on long guns.
I'm sure in an adrenaline state it wouldn't matter if life/death was the issue,it's practicing for that situation that will cost you.
yer far better off with a short barrel and a long stock ;)
