Most guys out west are still going to chase deer with the .223, what you forum heroes all forget is that coastal deer are not much bigger then domestic goats, most of you are comparing our 125 pound deer with your 250 pound deer. So the .223 may not be the best choice out east but maybe have a look at where the poster is from before forming an opinion.........
If you don't hunt and or never have hunted I don't see how half the people posting can even post in a thread like this, passing info on that you acquired on the internet is never going to inform anyone, but likely misinform then instead........

It was actually my first deer ever that made me think about a .223. All this time I've been listening to the guys on this forum, no smaller than .243, opinion. After I went out and actually shot my first deer that was only 25 feet away, it made me realize the .270 is overkill for are small coastal deer. .223 is cheaper and allows for a lot more range time. I will bet more deer have ran off and died somewhere else not to be found from people buying a rifle from wholesale, have it bore sighted, then think they're good to go or from people who buy a rifle with expensive ammunition then they don't get much range time in.
The guys that annoy me are the ones who only bench rest 3 shot groups to practice for hunting. Yo man, that's not how its going to be well you're hunting. Practice standing, kneeling, and prone shots at other distances not at just 100 meters. Try practicing quick fallow up shots too. That's what I tell em but they usually brush me off as some kind of #######.

As long as it can penatrate 1 inches of meat you will find ur self in the boiler room making a real nuisance
depends on what you would call the vitals, all deer were recovered but far from a quick humane end. I have only been hunting for 30 or so years so it is up to anyone who reads my posts if they decide to value my opinions or not, everyone is their own person and can make up their own mind as to what caliber suits them for the job at hand provided it is legal in their province.
