I've shot the CFSAC and NSCC matches 61 (300 Agony Snap), 62 400 Mover , 500 Snap, 600 Deliberate, and 800 Harassing Fire with a variable scope Leupold over the past 5 years. :D All of then with very happy results. I used the 6.5x20x50mm or maybe in 40mm objective.

Now has anyone ever shot these matches with a fixed 16X scope ? Something like the Leupold Mark 4 M1 ? How about the Super Sniper 16X ?

I'm just wondering what kind of sight picture you obtained on the fig 14 "Hun's Head" at the 300 Agony... Crossfire potential ? Usually I'll dial to 12X for this match.

For the 400 yard / meter mover or "walking man", I'll dial up to 12X or 14X depending on the mirage or lack of mirage.

For the 500 Snap , 600 Deliberate, and 800 yard harassing fire matches, I'll be happy with 14X , 16X or 20X depending upon the afternoon mirage waves.

Anyone with experience doing these matches with a 16X ? How about using a 10X like the Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x40 Mildot ?

Cheers and thanks for the discussion.

I'm using a 4.5x14, and I keep it on 14 power all the time for the 61 to 65 matches. I have no problems shooting the 300 agony snap. I make sure prior to getting set that I'm on the right target number. I can see left and right exposures without moving the rifle. Having said that, I would prefer a higher magnification for matches 64 and 65.

I use a 16X Super Sniper for matches 61-65. No problem with aquiring the Fig14 at 300. The field of view covers a bit more than the width of the target bay. The only thing that gives me a bit of trouble is seeing the target board on top of the berm

man I used my M4 16x at the sniper match this year, that includes at 70yds or whatever the short shots were. Talk about small field of view. No crossfires, but only because I shoot with both eyes open as much as possible and could keep an eye on the big ass number above where my target should appear.

Same here.

The shortest distance was 50 meters.

Having both eyes open defininately helps with fixed high power scopes at short range.
