Ever wanted to assemble your own AR15? ( Vancouver Area )

I don't even know what a lathe and a mill are!
I bet we have these machines at my work though, for certain...

Pic of my lathe and mill when I first brought them home.

I have no real mechanical skill myself but even so I managed to build myself two uppers recently and then struggled but finally succeeded in doing a trigger install last week which shot well. No one would otherwise trust me to fix a bicycle.

Just sent you a PM with some 'getting started' questions. I haven't shot an AR since basic training,lol.. Thinking of building one for fun, to remenise, just to have and shoot on the odd occasion I'd make it to a range. I just have non-res rifles for taking into the bush, but this CZ prohib nonsense is temporarily taking the fun out of that.

I may take you up on some help when I know what I'll end up building...

Out with the misses I'll respond later.

This is a little off topic... but seeing as you guys are in the lower mainland, where do you guys shoot your restricted rifles?

I was thinking of joining the mission gun club...

Been a member at Mission and Chilliwack ... now at Abbotsford Fish and Game ... that is the best of those 3 by far (3 ranges 20, 60 & 100 meters) but they limit their membership to 1000 so you may end up on a waiting list for a couple months, but it is worth it IMHO

Regarding the OP, I'm fairly new to the AR platform and not looking to build just now (have a norc) but I'd love some help/advice on complete dissasembly (understanding the machine better) & and maybe some help with polishing my trigger up abit and other small things I can do to improve it. Having problems getting the damn thing sighted in too ...

Would there be any interest in an AR build and modify clinic possibly sponsored by one of our contributing local dealers who has approached me with the idea?

I don't want to get into too many details as it's in the early stages of discussion between myself and the dealer. Event would most likely be held at a range to prevent issues with ATT's to my residence or alternate non range location.

I'm in for the modify part ... gulp, my wallet is afraid 'the build', but this might push me over the 'screw it, just do it' edge!

A range would be best IMHO.
More parking and classroom area, and the ability to test fire to work out feed issues ,etc.

Anyone know what it costs to rent a clubhouse for an afternoon at various ranges?

Bump to see how much interest in this event. I don't want to waste my time setting something big up if only a few show up.

If I'm in town I'll be there. Hopefully will have mine built by then and can see what others have done to get inspiration to mod (or build another).

Mission has a little reloading room next to range, no cost for that (though is a drop in charge for non-members).

Rule requiring single shot removed a while ago. Are asked to be aware of brass extraction, be courteous to rang members, and control shots / on target / target on berm.

Would be interesting to see how variations compare and perhaps even try / test - i.e. different weight buffers.
