Ever wonder what would happen if...

if I may, it is a Remington 700 short action that has a 24.5" King barrel. Rembo built it, sold it to me, and I traded it to Martinbns. It was one hell of an accurate rifle

martinbns, I have invented a simple universal broken shell extractor that should be able to remove what's left of the broken shell in your chamber.

Buy a brass rod from you local hardware store which are somewhat smaller in diameter than your bore diameter. Then with a file create a hook at the end of that brass rod, as well file away an taper some of the metal towards the hook.

You will, when you insert the rod from the breach into the chamber, be able to "feel" when the hook at the end of the rod go over the borken case mouth, and then with a gentle pull, you should be able to pull out the remaining broken shell from the chamber.

Good luck,

Snowhunter

Sorry, I missed that you already have the broken shell removed. Well, anyway, make my broken shell extractor for another time, as well as leave it in your range bag or among your hunting stuff. It comes in very handy when you need it most.

i would still get it checked out by the gunsmith.

What brand name is the rifle? (who makes the reciever? dont know anyone that chambers in that weird ass cartridge ;))

It's a rembo/bevan king/boyds remongton 700 custom.

Thats a damn good question, because he tried to trade the rifle to me about 2 weeks ago, and I didnt know about this...

I hope/assume its ok...

The rifle is fine, it's as accurate as it was the day Tod traded it to me. The last group it shot with 100 gr ballistic tips measured about .4 inches for 5 shots. It behaves exactly as it did when I got it.

It just goes to show how strong the three rings of steel really are.

For the record, I would never/have never sold or traded anything to anyone on this board that had a problem with it. I describe even safe marks when i sell a gun here. The only problem gun i've ever got rid of was to Wholesale Sports about 5 years ago.

In England a gunsmith has to send a rifleto the proof house to be proofed each time he installs a new barrel.

A gunsmith sent off about a dozen 308's and a 25-6 to be proofed.

The 25-06 came back destroyed, with a note that it had "Failed Proof". The remains of a 308 proof round were found inside it....

Bigger difference between .257 and .308 than their is between .257 and .264 I guess.
