I purchased a Char Broil Big Easy Oil Less Turkey Fryer on sale recently for an upcoming annual hunt. After years of using a traditional turkey fryer and never really feeling comfortable using one plus the expense of gallons of oil and pain in the butt clean up etc. I decided to give one of these a try. Reviews on the unit and the ends results with foods were all really good and videos on youtube made it appear very user friendly and safe so I picked one up and saturday evening gave it a whirl. It took about 20 minutes to assemble and get cleaned and ready for use. We followed the intstructions to season the cooking chamber which took about another 15 minutes then we popped a 13.5 lb butterball turkey in and followed the cooking guidelines using the supplied instructions and meat thermometer. Two hours later we had a turkey that was cooked to absolute perfection. It had that turkey fryer taste without using a ton of oil. We used 2 tbsps of peanut oil as per instructions brushed onto the cooking chamber(for seasoning the chamber) and basket and bird to prevent sticking to the basket and to aid in browning the skin. There wasn’t much leftover for sandwiches the next day once the 5 of us dug in.
