I have always wanted to build a nice M14/M305. Over the years I have found every single US GI part required. However, I wanted to wait till the end of the LGR to purchase a receiver. I lived through the "confiscation without compensation" of the early 90s and am NEVER going through that again. If I build it, I intend to keep it.

One of my last purchases was a stack of mags, but I was unsure whether they were GI, Springfield, commercial or Norinco and started to do some research.

I found an online publishing site called Lulu.com. If you search the site for "M14" there is a free to download PDF book on identifying M14 mags, called "Pictorial M14 Magazine Identification Guide" by Lee Emerson. It is over 260 pages long....yes....260 pages on M14 mags....very informative.

Thought you might be interested in it. Just go, sign on, and download for free.

I was able to ascertain from markings and construction that my mags are US GI, one Westinghouse, two Kileen Machine and Tool, two Borg Warner and two Winchester.

Thanks, I'm looking for another 3. I am a bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to spare mags !! You can never go wrong and what is the point of a semi without spares.

Amen to that brother! Will be adding that document of to-reads, thanks for the info.

I know, I'm the author. ;) I appreciate the feedback.

HA !!!! .....glad I didn't claim I wrote it.....that would have been a bit awkward.....

You know you are a gunnut when you are counting welds and dimples on a 45 year old mag !!!

But in order to help Lee continue to put out awesome information, everyone should go buy a copy of the book that isn't free, the M-14 Rifle History and Development. I take my signed copy to the clinics in BC for people to look at but Lee won't tell you to buy his stuff. He's too good a guy. Buy it. Now. Everyone!

PS I keep the mag guide on my smart phone for reference when I am at gunshows. Picked up two USGI mags for $15 each in Eastern Washington cause I could tell they were real.
