I've owned a few Mosin's in the past few years, always moving alone to the next in search of ''the one''
My latest acquisition arrived and upon removing the stock I see the barrel is ribbed for the entire length (from rear to front sight).

A quick Google search provided no information....so,
Is this common or uncommon thing on an ex sniper, or any Mosin for that matter?

Its from when they turned the barrel on the lathe. If its war time production they made them fast and diden't care what it looked like. My buddy has one like you discribe.

It's a 1942 model, so a mid-war manufacture. Thanks for the info guys :)
Wish it was smooth, the bore is great so wanted to mount it into a Boyd's...guess I'll have to move onto a new search.

I've seen a couple of the hexagonal receivers with edges sharp enough to cut yourself on.

Grizz
