Having bought and used thousands of excel 9mm and .45 bullets I'd say they're fine. I think the guys that slag 'em either are poor reloaders or lousy shooters....
Now you want a crap bullet? Buy some WestCoast 147gr 9mm! The 124's are fine, but half the 147's I bought (two diff. lots) were waaaaay undersized.

I slag Excel plated and I'm neither a lousy reloader nor a lousy shot.
THEY ARE PLAIN CRAP!
I've only tried the WC 200gr Truncated in .45, just OK, not bad but not great.
Frontiers are what I use and I find them to be the best.
I have about 4,000 rounds of .40 (180 grain) that I will give to who ever wants them. Just let me know what IPSC match we'll be crossing each othere path at...and they're all your's.
Most of the bullets are OK...the odd one is undersized (and literally falls into the case) and some look like jelly beans. You get what you pay for...

you are right, You get what you pay for. I normally weigh the Excel .40sw 190 grain and sort them into weight catagories...190-192 193-195. I throw out anything that looks bad or weighs too high or low. I also use a lee factory crimp sizer die on the last stage on my press, this resizes the round with the bullet inserted and usually makes the bullet mostly round again. The accuracy is more than acceptable using this method. The only drawback is the time.... I enjoy loading so its not a prob for me. I've tried montana gold and ranier bullets and they spec out very consistent but 40% more cost.
