The guy who put this together is truly talented, this is very well done and an excellent reference for the function of the 1917.....and for those with the 1919 or M37, the parts and function are nearly identical. He has several other really great animations as well.

 
Doesn't show what exactly extracts the fired case.
is it extracted by feed guide of the bolt? then unfired next cartridge ejects spent case ? by pushing spent case down and out of the gun?

It's a T-slot on the bolt face.
When the round is fed through the top, it slides in the T-slot and yes, the next cartridge ejects the spent casing.

I'm guessing it's the "battle sight". The aperture gets smaller for the longer range as with the C1's disk sight, the larger aperture allows you to see more of the tgt area for close in tgts.
