Excessive OAL

Bob,

You obviously understand the concepts here as well as I do (could be good...). I too have a BLR, but mine is chambered in .270 WSM. I could not get my RCBS dies to set the shoulder of the cases back quite far enough to chamber reliably after resizing. My BLR has an incredibly tight chamber I came to realize. I eventually purchased a different die set, but even then I had to plane about 0.003" off the shell holder allowing the case to be pushed just that much farther into the die!! Drove me mad until I figured this out. If you are still having chambering issues then perhaps make sure your press is camming over well and that there is no play in the press (like there can be in my Lyman turret press if I don't keep an eye on this).

Then again, your issue may be strictly bullet seating depth. Small base dies would not have helped in my scenario BTW. :)

Thanks for the info, I thought I was going crazy! I've managed to get it to a nice OAL similar to that requested by the Hornady loading manual so it is all good now, I just need some time at the range to try the new load out.

Hope all is good then. Let us know how it works out at the range.

I may have to take my neice to see "the Lorax" tomorrow, if not I shall be taking advantage of the lovely Winnipeg weather and hitting the range. I have a great hunting load with Barnes TSX for this rifle but I'm trying to get a cheaper load with an identical POI for cheaper fun
