Excited for upcomming Canadian build

So you decided not to go with another Savage?

The plan (so far)
Was going ultimatum with MDT ESS base chassis (middle portion)

So instead of buying another savage, i bought an Ultimatum and now have a spare savage receiver.

I will have a savage 10TR bolt and receiver, MDT ESS savage base chassis (middle), ATRS 20 moa steel rail, and rifle basix match trigger.
Either my 308 barrel transfers to 10TR once it opens out of 1/2 moa territory and get a 6.5x47 barrel for the ultimatum
Or either i sell savage base setup and get some spare gear for the 1 rifle (spare bolt head, order spare barrel now etc...)
If i sell spare savage chassis i could always keep the receiver, as that 10TR receiver has proven to work well.

Marty, are you going to Cerakote the barrel? Might need a nice small Canadian flag on it, or even a ghost flag.

On my ESS i got a velcro 2 round SAP carrier,
For pictures, or range bench work, i could find myself a tan velcro cdn flag
Good idea!
I like to be gunsmith independent (hence why i am loving these savage prefit shanks with barrel nuts)
Cerakoting a barrel will equal to some down time of some sort, and am not always patient for this

I hear you on the patient thing. I think I will purchase an IBI barrel before my factory one wears out, and get it Cerakoted. I probably will Cerakote my rifle for sure, and factory barrel ( maybe ) after hunting season this year as well. Only have like 300-350 down the pipe.

This! Richard NEAR makes some of the best components around. I'm using his rails on all my rifles.

Also, good job on a 100% Canadian build Marty, I've been looking into that myself. Your build will be something to be proud of.

x3 on the NEAR. Top-notch quality and Richard is a pleasure to deal with, knows his stuff and very helpful.

FYI, some prefit barrel makers will cerakote in popular colours. Cost is very reasonable especially from McGowen.

If you want the entire rifle to match, then spray as a complete unit but if you just want a coloured barrel... no problem

Marty, I'm looking forward to hear how everything performs. I am thinking about getting an utimatum deadline as well.

You are from MTL, not that far from me.
If you want to stop by EOSC (not that far off 417 Limoges exit) someday before committing to spend 1500$, to come and try it out, let me know and i’ll let you fire off some rounds and inspect.
Myself would of appreciated this before dropping the coin.

I wanted an action with small ejection port, integral recoil lug and savage small shank barrel threads, the choice is not abundant.

Does IBI offer this for future reference?
I do presume it may mark from being tightened on barrel vise

For the cost, Tangent Theta scopes are underwhelming. Better off getting a Schmidt&Bender, better bang for the buck and used by the Canadian Forces.

Most guys that are using them are not of the same opinion, from the guys I have talked to. I know some die hard Schmidt and Bender shooters that are switching over to the TT and not looking back.

Not sure if they are going to offer inhouse Cerakoting... still too early.

If properly applied Cerakote is quite resistant to scuffs... that's kind of the whole point :)

I would just wrap with a layer of masking tape and clamp. you will not need alot of force on the barrel nut when you install so damaging the Cerakote is slim to nil.

Just received my goodies, and now am that closer to my build.
Only Trigger Tech Diamond left to arrive!

I would of loved to test this out this weekend.
My trigger tech diamond is in the mail, ETA very soon.
Might have to warrant taking a day off next week!

I have only owned savages in the past, I can't believe how positive the ejection/extraction is on this action. Had to watch out my go gauge doesn't go flying.

Bedding has fully cured, bedded without a trigger in after all as I want to be ready ASAP once the TT arrives, hope I won't run into fitting issues.
On the plus side, with the rear tang bedded, I can fully torque the action without the bolt binding, so that is good news.

That chassis is inletted for all trigger hangers and has provisions for the lower safeties on the Deadlines. All you need to do when your TT Diamond arrives is throw it in the hanger, drop the whole thing into the chassis and make it go "click, bang, ding!"

Update?
She looks good!

Trigger get's here next Monday.
Emailed the guys at TT and we're top notch to find a solution to cut on wait time (I had to changed trigger shoe profile on my diamond).
Seems I will end up with what they call a pro curve now, and save a week or two.

Good to know!
I did take a deadline inlet even though it says rem 700 on chassis, I am guessing there was only minor differences added to it for deadline to fit better.

My deadline with ESS chassis do not like my 10 round MDT plastic mags, at all.
I have a MDT metal 5 round on hand with binder plate, seems to feed good.

Ordered 2x MDT metal 10 rounders without binder plates from Jerry, even though I touch lands at 2.820'' it will give me space to chase the lands.
I also asked him to b.o. a 13 rounder MDT metal mag without binder plate, you know the ETA on these?
