Excited to hear a review of the TNW SGP-QCP from Marstar

XCR_Odin_Tan.gif

Ever hear of an XCR.....non restricted

Wow its got the same color. The same logic lead to alot of rifles being classified as restricted or prohibited because of color.

It's saying something when the XCR looks the more refined of the two... This looks like something cobbled together in the gun markets of Pakistan.

I figured I'd end some of the speculation and hearsay.

Well I just ordered a SGP-CQB complete upper in 7.62 from Marstar.

It fits the bill for me since I was getting a but tired of only being able to shoot mil-surp through the SKS ;)

I'll be mating it to a RRA Lower and giving you a review.

Looking forward to your review.

Dunno if this has been shared already as I just skimmed though the thread, but here is an interesting, if a touch old, review of the TNW retrofit kit:

http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=37015

Not very positive I'm afraid. I did email TNW directly to see if this concern has since been addressed and if they have any "official" accuracy and long term durabilty tests to share with the community. Will keep everyone posted.

I spoke to John @ marstar Friday and I believe that, since John backs what he sells, the TNW isn't the ghetto kit the weeb tries to make it out to be.

I've got a case of 7.62 waiting to get hurled down range thru this puppy and I'm thinking this could be my new favorite 'AR'.

I'm looking forward to finding the holes easier. :)

Here's some info on the rifle from someone who has actually got thier hands on it.

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=36893

I'll hold off on buying one till I see something more positive on these rifles..

It's too bad, great concept...

How do you weld steel to aluminium??? If they've perfected a process that works, is stable and strong, they'll sell alot more than rifles.

This rifle is $1600? wtf? If your spending that much already, whats another 600 to get a REAL high quality quick change calibre and barrel system? The LMT MRP CQB is twenty times the rifle! OR if you already have a lower buy just the MRP upper for the same kinda doe. The difference in price is nothing when you compare actual features and build quality. For the love of god if you're thinking about getting one just save alittle more OR throw alittle extra on the credit card and get an MRP system.

It dosent make sense to me anyway, but hey what do I know...

I have a LMT MRP and if they made a 7.62 x 39 piston conversion I'd buy it.

But a 7.26 piston upper is not available in the MRP platform that I know of (no LMT or Spikes Tactical). An LMT piston conversion kit in .556 is kit is just over $1k.

and a PWS upper in 7.62x39 is $2,200 before taxes.

So, For that coin I'd buy an XCR.

900 beans for a complete 7.62x39 piston upper is not a bad price at all.
And really it's just for sh!ts and giggles.

Besides at the range. it's a teeny bit easier to swap and upper than to change a barrel, even if it is an MRP.

I don't know... It seems really underwhelming, IMO.

I hope it sells well (for Marstar's sake), but I don't picture myself buying one.

As mentioned earlier, I did receive an email back from TNW. My query:

Hello,

I am *very* interested in this firearm as it satisfies my criteria in
a AR-15 platform - a gas piston based interchangeable barrel system.
However, I have been unable to find any industry reviews on the
firearm in regards to durability and accuracy. Note that I have seen
the YouTube videos posted of the beta product which were impressive to
say the least.

As I was unable to find any further information on the intertubes on
the SGP-QCB, my specific queries are:

1. Has any further durability/ stress testing been conducted of the
final product ?
2. Has any accuracy testing been carried out for the 16" 5.56mm barrel
and the 7.62x39mm 16" barrel ?

Any additional information - links, articles, videos - would be
appreciated. Excellent work on designing, manufacturing and
introducing this innovative firearm!

Regards,
^.^

Their response:

sorry it took so long to get back to you. we have done testing about 10,000.00 rnds gun fired very well . group size with 16" barrel in 556 has been also good under 1" at 100 yards has been achieved. 762x39 I have not done testing on but barrels ar both from shaw.
no info we have a mag article coming out in swat mag but I haven't seen it yet . gun price is $1495.00 for in 556 upper is $895.00. cal. change kits barrel mag and bolt group. run $499.00 thanks for your interest

So all in all, it is what it appears to be - a relatively new and innovative product on the market with limited, but promising, published test results. Like any new product, it will take a while to be as widely recognized as the products from other more established manufacturers but that should, by itself, not be a cause to discount it as being "inferior" or "under-performing" until sufficient samples have been evaluated to form a firm and consistent opinion.

Marstar's decision to carry this product speaks volumes of their confidence in it's ability, but I, personally, wish to see more detailed reviews of fit and finish, long term durability and accuracy prior to buying this (I am *so* close to an impulse buy!).
