Exemptions Gone

I can see if someone is going to another country to compete in IPSC investing the $$ for international mags, but many of us have invested much just for the mags we use here in Canada. I know of a few guys that are making do with their single stacks and 10 rd mags and I doubt if they want to invest more on 8 rd mags just to play here. No doubt some of us will spend the extra to stay in the game but I can for see many who will just pack it in or play somewhere else.

Is it really bullying when we were using an excemption. It's not like they changed the global rules, just ours. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just trying to keep my mind open.

Lets see..............the original exemptions came into place for "logical" reasons.

The situation on the ground has not changed one itoa.

The only thing that has changed is a new rule book that requied the exemptions to be applied for again.

now they say no.

yes that is indeed bullying.

awfull lot of trimming perhaps....out to the bench grinder.

I think it says rules apply after May 1st, 2009. I guess a good thing to prepare local shooters would be the inclusion of boxes in the next few club matches, to see if standard guns with mags fix in the box.

It would be interesting to see what the response would be like if there were a way to poll the current IPSC Canada members to see if they wanted to remain with IPSC or approach USPSA about becoming either another Area (would probably make the most sense given our laws up here around mag limits and what not) or being sucked into the existing Area's. The way the IPSC world body seems to have a complete disregard for the money people have spent (i.e. gun is on the production list, gun is off the production list), mags, bullets, etc. it sure makes a guy feel like alternatives should be investigated.

Does anybody have any suggestions around this dilemma for me?

I have an insert the fits in the box that is machined to the exact tollerances (minus 1 thousand) it can be easliy measured and confirmed with calipers then inserted into any 'suspect' box. it will prove or disprove that a box is smaller then the specs!!!

......hmm can we make .40 mags fit .38 super? Interesting arguments for sure, wonder what the world body would think of CPSA....

I'd like to know as well seeing as this has been thrown around a few times.
I for one would say USPSA, just because I like single stack.

How many Canadian IPSC shooters have USPSA membership. I do.

As rank and file member speaking for myself I would like to see US-Canadian style IPSC where we compete based on same rules.
This year I am planning to shoot in US and there are same differences between IPSC and USPSA, so maybe we should all get together and create one of the largest IPSC region in this sport.
Also, I believe countries which should have lots of members should have more say then those with smaller membership.

Heh, I think a bunch of you guys are missing my point.

If the box is not to spec, then you arbitrate the box and get it thrown out. With no box, people can't be bumped to Open if their magazines are too long.

Anyone trying to pass off a gun as being in Standard Division that is blatantly too big will force me to look for a REAL box which might happen to be hidden in some bag somewhere. I'm sure THAT competitor will be really popular with everybody else when we have to go back and check everyone else's magazines and start bumping people for real.

Hey check out my New Open gun

A 1942 Colt 1911A1. Sorry for putting you all at such a competitive disadvantage, but thanks to the IPSC world body I'll be shooting open. Right where this baby belongs.

what Vince seems to be implying is that we didn't submit our new request on time.

Sean, can you clarify what, if anything, is left from the 2004 letter? In your note to the RD's you said that the Open and Standard exemptions were gone, but what about things like 10 meters to steel? Obviously, the 10 round limits are not a question.

Since there are legal ramifications with regards to the following; these exceptions remain in place:

10 meters for steel.
10 round magazine limits.
OK to mod production mags to 10 rounds.

As for time limit that Rob mentions, if there was one for submitting to the executive, this would be the first I've ever heard of that. No one from the executive told me we were late. In fact when the letter was submitted to the President, the President wrote back acknowledging receipt and stated that it would be reviewed at the meeting.
