Exotic single shot shotguns

I am more a rifle shooter than a shotgun shooter,

I went grouse hunting using my grandfathers old baikal single shot 13 gauge and really enjoyed it,

The over under I tried I enjoyed the most were Blaser F16 and F3s,

Was just wondering what were the cool single shot shotguns manufacturers in a similr quality range than the blasers.

Well, I have a single shot J & W Tolley 12 gauge game gun. 5 pounds even with 29” barrels. Not a trap gun at all. Absolutely gorgeous English gun made to the highest standards. English made like my Tolley surface now and again but they are pretty rare. I’ve seen them from big names like Purdey and Holland, as well as lesser known English makers. I have yet to see a finer version than mine. They are often in great original condition for 100 yo vintage guns because, cool as they are, typically their owners choose a double when it was time to go hunting.

I'm with Canvasback on this one, fine British singles are a real pleasure. This one, signed Thomas Seymour of London, is in 16 gauge (2 1/2" chamber):

For a truly exotic single, here is a Boss & Co. 12 gauge pin-fire from 1864. It is one of only three single pin-fires Boss & Co. made, under the direction of Stephen Grant:

How exotic are we talking?
No shortage of premium makers that have singles available. Hunting singles seem to be more common amongst English manufacturers. Holland & Holland would make them from a .410 all the way up to a 4 bore if requested. Not saying you won't find good Italian, German, French and so on, the english ones just seem to be more common.
Trap singles is a question of who doesn't make one.

While the big british names come with big price tags there were some decent singles built in spain during their golden years. I own a lowly AyA single but its extremely well made and shoots well. Its 12ga and will hopefully see the turkey fields come spring

Epps has a 410 holland n holland but i believe its a rebored rook rifle. I havent seen it in person but have been tempted to make the drive myself

Yes, you could run the gamet on single shots. I have a very nice Scottish .410 underlever by W. Horton and another unmarked English .410 side lever. Also have a Clarke under lever English made 12 gauge single from the late 1800's.

I run a 1977 Ithica import Perazzi TMS(TM1 w/factory screw chokes) as my dedicated singles and handicap trap gun. The gun has been completely gone through and rebuilt mechanically and then refinished by CJ Dawe. It has an upgraded SC3 grade stock set and sports a 34" barrel.

Completely refurbished by Nick Mackinson about 15 years ago. I don’t run guns, I shoot ‘em and over a hundred years after leaving the shop this fine old lady still gets the job done.

That's an eye opener for me. Every single shot I've seen up to now has been an ancient black powder job or a Sears or Eaton's $14.95 post war special.

I was of course talking about break action shotguns. Or are you saying there are precision target shooting shotguns?

Many high grade single shots were built for trap shooting. I own an ithaca 4e trap. Thats just a mid point of the ithaca single barrel line up

I remember your gun all too well. I was its custodian for a number of years and used it to post a few perfect scores at trap.

I am talking break action shotguns...target guns = clay target guns...it's a whole other world of quality built guns designed towards the trap shooting disciplines.
